VPN - I live in Canada, use VPN - Can i buy games with it on?
I use Windscribe VPN mainly to hide from my ISP. I got this with the recent Humblebundle.

I live in Canada, and my VPN points to Burnaby, which is in Canada. Also the same province as where i live. Can i buy stuff on Steam, interact with Steam, etc without worry? Someone told me i could be banned and lose my account, and thats not something i want.

as long as you are not trying to get games cheaper or not paying taxes you are supposed to.

section 3 A...

You agree that you will not use IP proxying or other methods to disguise the place of your residence, whether to circumvent geographical restrictions on game content, to purchase at pricing not applicable to your geography, or for any other purpose. If you do this, Valve may terminate your access to your Account.

I understand this yes, but i've read a bunch of people using VPN's on Steam for years, but they turn off the VPN when buying games. I thought i could alleviate this by telling it to place me in Burnaby which is about ~9 hours from here so i would think it would be fine, but i don't know for sure and want to find out before i make the mistake of being ignorant and getting my account removal.

As long as you don't use a VPN to bypass region restrictions on game prices (EDIT...or due to location), it's not really a big deal. The main part of that section of the SSA is "to disguise the place of your residence".

This comes up here often.

I did search prior to asking, but they weren't specifcally (any of them) asking what i am. But it seems it would be okay to buy with it on then?

No, I was not saying that you should not have asked. I was just saying that it gets asked here very often. I am sorry, but I am not going to advise you to have it on and then buy Steam content.

All I can say is you cannout use it to "disguise the place of your residence". (I edited some words into my post that you quoted for clarification)
