Closing account
I am closing my account. How do I get the install files for the games I purchased and the keys so I can reinstall if I get a new PC?

Everything is saved on the account, all you have to is reinstall steam on new computer and log in, only thing you'll have to do is reinstall all your games again.

The games are tied to your account, not to a PC. You can simply use your account on the other PC as well, you would just have to re-install / re-download them there.

You did not understand the question, I will be closing the account and I want to secure the games I have already purchased.

If by "closing your account", you mean requesting Steam terminate it, please note that it will terminate all of your game licenses, meaning you will be unable to play your games. Furthermore the keys will not be freed to be used on a different account.

Ah, you want to delted it. I don't see the point though, as far as I could understand it, you are moving to a new PC and want to play on this one. Why don't you just use your Steam account on it?

So you can never close the account? What happens if Steam closes their business?

You will lose everything unless you downloaded the games to your drives. But you won't haveto worry about that, Valve is strong and is making a lot of money to being closed anytime soon.

Yes, I have no plans to purchase a PC right now but at sometime in the future I do not want to learn that all my rights to use the games was removed when I closed the account.

You can close your account. You will lose all your games which require Steam to play, which is most games on Steam. If Steam goes out of business, it has been stated in the past that a final patch will be made available to remove the requirement for Steam.

Depends on the exact circumstances, but one of the many options is that you lose everything. Anyway, instead of downloading a lot of stuff and writing down a lot of keys, all you have to do is write down your login name and password and keep it somewhere safe.

You could delete your account, as stated by the friendly user above. Read this for more info: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4650-SDKC-0716&l=english

Removing the requirement does not give you the media to reinstall on a new PC.

No, it won't. However what's stopping you from using the Steam client to back up your games now in case Steam goes out of business later? In addition, I tend to think Steam would attempt to give some warning before they closed, so people could download their library.

Xfire did that when they stopped using the app, they allowed us to download all our SS's and videos for like a month. Steam would prob do that but even longer since they are games.

Steam may shut down. If you have everything on disk, the disks may go bad, the house may burn down. If everything is fine, you may get hit by a car. Life is full of uncertainty, just roll with it. Just keep one or more copies of your username and password, half an eye on the news, and if and when you get a new PC, deal with it then.
