A little Googling tells you can set up dualshock 3 controllers through steam big picture mode in controller settings? This doesnt support the analog face buttons apparently, so you can do better with DsHidMini if thats something that you care about, but that appears to be quite a bit more technical.
Big Picture Mode is probably your best bet.

NOTE: for Big Picture mode you *may* need an old install of PSNow as dualshock 3 support was removed in later versions, BUT if you use the old version it should just work. The old version of PSNow can be found here:
