Backup all the saves and then transfer the file.
Save the entire steamapps folder(s), explained here as if uninstalling Steam.

I don't suggest doing it that way for most users. Do it manually, then you know you have the files. And as stated above, saves are in different places, depending on the game. Some in documents, some in "my games" and some in the game folders themselves.
