VR players wearing glasses

What is your correction and do you need it in VR?

I have 1 or 2D of nearsightedness with another 1 or 2D astigmatism and a small add for reading. I found that I see well enough in the Vive headset that I do not wear my glasses (actually they don't fit well in the headset so I decided to try without and it seems fine).

I'm just curious about other glasses wearers' experiences in VR.

How about far-sighted people and those with multi-focal prescriptions?

I'm using an HTC VIve but I welcome replies from Oculus Rift users, too. I'm interested in setting something up that would let other people experience VR and I want to know if people with glasses would be left out. Based on my experience, I think people with less than about -4D myopia could go without their glasses and be fine.

OR... there hasn't actually been many long term tests into the subject.

Marty Banks, professor of optometry at the University of California, Berkeley, and head of the visual space perception laboratory, has looked into many aspects of virtual reality and vision. One of the biggest problems, he says, is an issue dubbed the “vergence-accommodation conflict” that can cause eye-strain - an effect also noted by Oculus Rift’s guidelines. The impact seems to be temporary, but Banks says longer-lasting effects are worth watching out for. “Everything I have seen suggests it is all short-term and you readjust after you take that headset off,” he said. “But I think it would be unwise for us to say there is no problem.”

I play with and without my glasses, depends on how I feel tbh.

You do know that you can adjust the vive by pulling out the gray rings on the outside to move the display further away to accomodate your galsses don't you?

Yes. In my case the actual eyesize of the frames is larger than what they were apparently expecting. They were expecting the modern little round metal-framed whisps and I have big old plastic 70's frames. I'm also totally paranoid about having the lenses bang into each other. I don't know exactly how delicate the Vive lenses and I don't want to find out the hard way.

It seem like moving them out with the gray knobs would reduce the field of view and that does not sound good.

I have ordered some prescription lenses from VR Lens Lab so I'll see soon how big a differnce they make.
