why are private screenshots, both friends only, and link-only, still visible to admins
why? it has to follow the word "private," right?

So they can see that you aren't providing "against the rules stuff" and other things like that

Ok. Then you've got nothing to worry about :)

Admins can see everything no matter what setting you are using.
They can see hidden profiles and hidden artwork and screenshots.

There are still rules on Steam regarding the upload of screens or artworks and that counts equally for stuff that gets uploaded as just for "friends" or totally hidden.
Since you can change that status anytime the stuff still needs to confirm to the rules.

It's not hard to figure out why they might want to, you can get in trouble if people use websites you run for illegal purposes.

Even ones hidden behind "Friends Only" profiles are still available for everyone to see.

Your Beseige and Transformers pics for example.

Don't rely on "friends only" to mean its not still public.

If admins can see everything, why is there a setting for "private" screenshots? I took some screenshots of [ahem] content & got banned from steam community for a few days.

Because hiding content still does not mean you're allowed to break the rules.

I understood that. That's why I set those screenshots to "private only". I had no idea those could be seen by others. Otherwise I'd never have uploaded then.

So, you knew you were breaking rules and are now surprised you got punished for breaking the rules?

I didn't know I was breaking rules. My bad. I'm just having a difficult time understanding the "private" setting.

Anyways, learnt a lesson the hard way I suppose.
