[Guide] Fixed Updating Steam, verifying installation...
Hello. One of my PC having issue with "Updating Steam, verifying installation" problem and no one seem able to fixed it.

I found this method to work absolutely fine. Feel free to try:

1. Download NirCmd - command line utility from here:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html

2.Extract it anywhere you want. You only need nircmd.exe. I extract it in "C:\Windows\"

3. Go to Steam setting and disable "Run Steam when computer starts". You can find this option in Setting - Interface

4. Go to Windows "Task Scheduler". You can find this app in Windows Administrative Tools or just type task scheduler in start menu.

a. Click "Create task..."
b. In GENERAL tab - type any name for this new task, I use "Steam Launcher"
c. In TRIGGER tab - click "NEW" and select "At log on" in drop down menu
d. In ACTION tab - click "NEW" and use this settings:-
- action = "Start a Program"
- program/script = C:\Windows\nircmd.exe (depend on where you extracted nircmd in earlier step)
- add argument (optional) = exec hide "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe"-silent
e. click ok to finalize this task. keep other setting to default.

5. Rejoice. No more "Updating Steam, verifying installation... " popup when you switch on PC.

Nonsense. This solution only hides appearance of this window and does not fix the bug in the client itself.

This ^^

also I doubt it's a bug.. I think it's just Steam checking if there was no update to download or anything

wow. you should try before judging.

i think it has something to do with admin right/uac.

you can even create task scheduler using cmd prompt as an elevated shortcut but you will see cmd windows in short while. nircmd can hide these windows. im sure there are a lot of alternative like batch file but nircmd is just another tool and work fine for me.

The link leads to a site where i should install some crap i don't want.it says "install MergeDocOnline". No - i won't ... i need a solution not some ransomeware or something else :-(

This is not a solution anyway, merely a way to hide the complaint.
The same effect can be had without downloading anything by opening regedit and adding Steam to
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
with the aforementioned -silent

But again, hiding the message that Steam thinks the installation needs fixing does not constitute a solution.
