Steam runs at startup despite my settings.
The box is unchecked, which means Steam should NOT be running when I start my computer. I've even checked my task manager to see if it was that letting it start: Nope, it's not on the list.

I'm confused and I'm not sure what to do. Anyone have any ideas?

does ur version of windows support msconfig? otherwise manually check startup folder.

Also, adding to what the good Shiki is saying above, if you have CCleaner, Steam "may" be set in the startup menu of that program also. So check that and disable it there and delete the entry if that applies.

It's not on msconfig or on the CCleaner list, and the startup folder is empty. Is it one of the "invisible" files if in that folder?

Thank you for the suggestions though, but yeah, sadly no dice.

Try checking the entry in Settings, then restart Steam, uncheck the entry, logoff Steam then restart your computer.

Sadly that seems not to have worked. Aaargh.

Would you be able to tell me if you have a process called SteamClientService.exe running?
RanCandles Apr 15, 2017 @ 6:00pm
Hmmm, I don't seem to have an .exe with that name despite making a general search on my computer. Could be it's an invisible file, but even so, it should be showing up in a search.

It would be located in your Steam directory.

Right-click on your taskbar and open Task Manager, look at the Services tab and it should appear among the list of enabled and disabled services.

Ah, yes, I do in fact seem to have it. It's currently running though I'm not sure if that's because Steam's currently open or because it's doing its own thing. It's not saying whether it's enabled or disabled though, simply that the program is running. (I apologize if I sound rather ignorant, I'm not particularly computer savvy and I appreciate the help you're offering. Thank you for your patience!)

No worries.

Click on the Services button on the bottom right of the Task Manager and you will be presented with a list of services. Look for the Steam Client Service, right-click and go to Properties and make sure it isn't set to Automatic. Set it to Manual if you have to.

Took me a while to find what you meant, but finally did! And... It's already set to Manual. Alright, then. Hmm.

Back to the startup tab in Task Manager, have you got something called Steam Client Bootstrapper on the list?
RanCandles Apr 17, 2017 @ 4:53am
Checked it, and no, there's nothing in the startup tab that seems to be related to Steam. Kind of baffled at this point, honestly.

I'm kind of baffled as well. If i can think of anything else, i'll let you know.

!!! I FOUND IT it's on the Processes tab though, not the startup tab. It doesn't seem to be in any of the other tabs either.
