is there a way to change aspect ratio of games?

for some reason whith games i use my native resolution (1440x900) and the aspect ratio is 16:9 not 16:10 for me and some games do have an option to change that but in the ones that dont e.g. payday 2 (the main game im trying to fix) im stuck with black bars on the top and bottom.
so if there is a way to change aspect ratio outside of games could someone please tell me how?

You could try changing your Desktop resolution? I'm sorry if this is not the answer you were looking for, I'm a bit confused from this question.

Aspect ratios depend on your monitor, you can try changing resolution in your desktop and games, but unless your monitor is default 16:10, you won't get 16:9 resolutions to look full..

my resolution is native and its just in games

if i knew how to do that i would have done it already dont you think? XD

Open the game's config.ini file (or similarly named file) using notepad in the game files in your documents (make sure hidden files is off so you can see it).

Then edit the file with notepad. You will most likely see two values like W = 1980 and H = 1080, etc. and change them to what you want. Make sure to note the original values in case you screw something up.

Very easy.

ok but i still dont know how to get there because again if i knew how to do this i would have done it already
