GalaxyPeer.dll blocked as unsafe file/suspicious by Avast?
So I was finishing an update of the Battlezone 98 Redux game which I bought a little while ago via Steam and for some reason Avast freaked out during the middle of the update process, blocking some file or something that was apparently [SUSP]. It says the infection is Win32:BogEnt which is what it marked as Suspicious... and of course, the process that it detected this issue from was Steam.exe. What I don't get is why? I don't seem to be having nay computer issues right now (Though I've also currrently let it keep the file in its Virus Chest as nothing seems to have been broken. I've yet to test Battlezone, though...)

What should I do? I want to think it must be a false positive but this is also the first time this has happened so I just don't know.

Set the entire Steam folder as an exception. Avast is pretty good at false positives for Steam games.
Hmm, I see. I'll have to do that then, thanks!
Although you shouldn't need GalaxyPeer.dll to run it anyway, since it's a file from GOG's client - its presence there shows that the people who sent the game to Steam were lazy and just sent the GOG version without even glancing at the files.

You should have Avast as allowing Steam and games as realt-time exceptions, as you should with any antivirus.

Besides, Avast is on the list....

Just as also covered by the good Snapjak above. Make exceptions for Steam and games in real-time, and then verify the game files for any and all games affected.

The most recent version of Avast will automatically detect games and lower its priority to avoid interfering with them, incidentally, so you don't have to set them as a universal exception for that reason.

But why wouldn't you ? Why not just allow exceptions and then you don't have to worry about it at all.

And some users may not have the most recent version, or fully updated version. So, exceptions should cover all cases. But I understand what you are saying. Thanks.

EDIT...

Anti-Virus Applications - Any Anti-Virus program could potentially block Steam and Steam game access, especially when not properly configured for use with Steam. Please make sure that Steam and all Steam games are listed as exceptions in these programs. If the issue persists, please try disabling or temporarily uninstalling the program to test the issue.
