Not all games support using the cloud, if that is what you mean, as far as I know, and pretty sure you have to enable that in the game from your library.

Making a manual backup of the save is always a good idea.

And if you would have saved your steamapps folder from the other computer, unless you still can get it, you don't have to redownload all your games. You just transfer the folder or a copy of it, and then you are good, after you install Steam on the new computer.

When I say my save data is gone I mean all the progress its like I never played the game before but when I look at my progess on my profile It shows all the achivements and everything.

Theres no way I can get anything from the old laptop it done for.

Not all games save progress in the game folders in your steamapps/common folder.

If you cannot get anything off of the other computer, and you did not have the cloud being used for saving progress in that game (if game supports the cloud), then you have to start over.

You changed computers, so I am not sure how you expected your progress to be saved otherwise. Unless you mean an online game where you progress is saved on that server, when that may apply.

If you still have the old laptop and the hard drive isn't what died, you can pull that out and plug it into any computer or an external bay to get your saves off it.

Good point, Snap. Thanks.

OP, what exactly happened to the old computer ?

I just assumed that steam saves the games I download I didn't even know steam has a cloud are you sure that there's really no way to get my saves back without taking the hard drive out of my old laptop

Then what the good Snapjak said above is your only hope. You need to carefully research how and get the drive and try to get the files off of it.

But personally, I would just start over, depending on the game and how important your saved progress is.

EDIT>>>

OR, if you could borrow a battery for that exact laptop, you could boot it up and get them that way.

You are welcome, and sorry for the trouble. See my edit above, as you may have that option also, if you can find one just like it.

I am not sure what happened but if the cord being jerked out damaged the charging port somehow, maybe you could get it resoldered, but maybe just borrow a battery instead, because if you buy one, and then cannot charge it either, you wasted your money maybe on buying one.

Just something to think about. Thanks.
