Debit Card Fraud??
Hello all,

Recently, I had noticed my wallet missing. The last time I had remember having it, was at school. My school is notorious for theft, and I was not surprised finding out later my wallet was stolen. Chase Bank called me saying there was purchases on ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.com (Never been on there) and Steam. The Steam transaction took $60 out of my account, before being reported as fraud. I would be interested to see if Steam will help find the man who committed this act, which is most likely a fellow classmate. Other than refunding me, my money, will they ip trace the purchase, or give up the username? Where can I go to find who did this?

Thank you

valve will not disclose that information to you. it will be between chase and valve.

contact chase and let them know and also, you may have to issue a chargeback for the purchase that the person made.

No, Steam will never reveal IPs or usernames. You can contact Steam support about charges that weren't made by you here: https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithUnknownCharges

You can also contact your bank and get them to change your card number and report the fraud to them.

If the incident happened on your account, make sure you have authenticator enabled, mobile authenticator is preferred, and also remove any saved payment information on your account. Change password as well.

Also, go to https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage and deauthorize all other devices.

So, where do I go to find who has done this? They are obviously locals.

Valve would not be able to help, at least not directly.

The bank can investigate and press charges on the person, but they would have to get a court order to get information from Valve if they needed it to help with the case.

Honestly, with that little involved, the bank will most likely cancel the card and chargeback the amount spent. The cost to investigate would cost them a lot more.

If the card is charged back, then games purchased will be removed from the account and the account that made the purchase will be locked by Valve.

Just make sure you don't chargeback any of your purchases.

Just tell your bank to issue a new card number and dispute the one charge that you didn't make. There's no need to worry about anything else. It's pretty straight forward and happens all the time.
