Audio Crackling From Internet/VLC when I play anything on Steam
Hiya,

I am experiencing audio cracklng when i listen to the Internet or a song on VLC whilst 'Simultaneously' playing on Steam. I like to listen to the news for example using Firefox but when i start a game via Steam the audio from Firefox begins to Crackle and Pop. As soon as i close the game the audio is fine. (I should mention having steam open itself causes no problems, only when im playing a steam game).

Anyone know what to try? All my audio drivers and Windows is up to date. I never had this problem before

Here's an example playing a tune from VLC -

And Here's the Crackle heard when listening to BBC News on Firefox (Its usually much worse than this)

Might be a codec issue. I did a search of "VLC".

From this search...

See if the experiences of others with VLC and Steam can help you also.

Thanks Given One but im not sure it's a codec problem. VLC used to work fine. Also the same thing happens streaming anything from the Internet.

Hmmm i just Ended Process Tree for Steamweb helper and it fixed it for about 5 minutes before the issue started up again.

Try this, but only for the audio aspect of your issue...

Restart your computer into safe mode with networking. Log into your Steam client and then launch VLC and listen to some music and see if the issue presents itself there.

Are you sure all your device drivers are up to date from the official manufacturer only and not by using Windows update instead ?

EDIT....I can see you said they are up to date, but how did you get them up to date ?

Manually search for device driver updates for all of your devices in the computer. If you find new ones, download them and install them first before this safe boot test.

I use Driver Robot to update my drivers except for the Nvidia stuff. I have the Realtek Audio Driver and Intel R Display Driver on this laptop. I went into control panel and it says all the audio drivers are all up to date.

Yea, I don't suggest using that kind of software for updating drivers. Just manually search for them yourself, or use the official tools on the official website to do it if you must.

I would not be using that for drivers. Just go to the website of the official manufacturer please, and search for your computer and check if they are up to date yourself. Don't trust third party software to do that correctly or fully.

Post screenshots of all of your installed programs.

You seem to have ignored what I suggested about the safe boot option.

I cant run the games in safe mode which is when the problem occurs. VLC works fine with Steam open, its as soon as a game is started.

Sorry, as you are correct, but I only got from your OP that you were just using Steam and VLC also, I must have misunderstood that you were trying to play games and listening to music on VLC.

Sorry about that, as that must have been my mistake.

All I can suggest is driver updates as I have outlined, screenshots of your programs (there may still be a conflict somewhere), or searching the threads I linked to you.

If you have k-lite codec pack for example only, that can be a possibility.

I have this issue for a while. It appears to be some weird mix with Codecs and Windows 10. Definitely not a driver issue I can say for certain
