Can I use a CD key instead of paying 5€ to use Steam?
When you create a Steam user, you have to use 5€ before unlocking basic features such as a Friends List. But do I have to spend those 5€ on the Store? Can I not activate a game with a CD key from e.g. Instant Gaming?

Could I e.g. activate a key for CS:GO bought for 9€ on the internet, for a completely new account, instead of spending the full 13-15€ on the Steam Store, and then still get the features? Or will I have to buy for 5€ worth of games directly from Steam?

Please answer quickly, since this is quite urgent.

Thank you :D

No, cd key activation does not count.

You need to spend at least $5 USD on Steam. Using CD keys purchased elsewhere do not count.

There's always the option of buying $5usd worth of wallet funds directly from the steam store to become unlimited.
