Something wrong with US download servers?
I made a thread earlier, but now that I've tried more solutions I feel the need to make another thread. Around 98% on all US servers the speed (which was perfectly fine until that point) just steadily goes down to a crawl (it's not installing btw, disk usage goes down as well and it's just a megabyte or two from finishing) until I pause and resume.

Switching to the Philippines or a non-US region is the only way they properly download all the way without any drops in speed.

Every other program downloads and uploads just fine, my PS4 also downloads and uploads just fine. Just steam for some reason is doing this to me.

I have tried restarting steam many many times, restarted my PC, cleared my download cache, nothing works for US servers. Was wondering if anyone else was having this and/or if there's a solution to the problem. This problem just suddenly began happening today.

Changing regions, depending on what one is trying to download is nothing new and not a big deal really. It can be considered normal if that solved your problem.

Looks like there are some issues here periodically, though, just recently.

Yeah until it gets resolved I'm just gonna have to stick with a non-US region for the time being.

Key thing to remember with changing regions...

Never only try just one and assume that exhausts the possibility. Try many, and try some very far away from you also.

I have seen cases (and have proof) of users having to try them all before getting the game data.

Just in case that can help you in the future. Thanks.

Sweden works too and is a little bit faster. Seems like only a small amount of people are affected in the US servers. I think one person said they were having a similar issue and I got one upvote on a reddit thread. So others must be having the issue but only a tiny group of people.

Also, while we are on the topic. Tuesdays at around 7 PM PST US and Steam goes down for maintenance for only a few minutes...maybe less than a minute depending.

You will see that in a big red header on the page I linked you above on Tuesdays for US timezones. And interestingly enough, about right after that, we see threads about connectivity issues. LOL :steamhappy:

I haven't downloaded a game or update in a couple of weeks so maybe last tuesday's maintenance had something to do with it. Not sure. Doubt it's my router despite one or two weird things happening now and again if literally everything else is working and every non-US download region is working.

Ah....

The first step to troubleshoot connectivity issues and download issues is to bypass all wireless conncection and hardware (routers) and run ethernet only directly to the modem.

We see routers be the issue all the time here.

Though seeing how people are mentioning how their speeds are dipping like crazy after certain points and erroring out/pausing by itself on the subreddit it seems like steam itself is likely the culprit. They all did similar things to me including rebooting routers among other things.

Yes, this time the network could be the issue. But just so you know, normally we suggest to start with bypassing wireless connectivity, as you can see in the support page.

But you are right, as on occasions, it is the network and simply waiting or changing regions helps. Thanks.

I am connected via ethernet, forgot to mention that.

Also oddly enough when I restarted my PC it worked for a bit then started happening again.

I suggest you also be sure you have the latest NIC(LAN) and wireless device drivers installed from the official manufacturer's website only, and NOT by using Windows update instead if that applies.

All device drivers really, except GPU. Get them from Intel, Nvidia, or AMD of course.
