Non-standard keys in keyboard shortcuts
I would like to use a key not usually found on keyboards (like F13) to open my steam overlay.

I have a ThinkPad with a 8001 button I never used so I remapped it to a short program that makes it act as any button I want.

I'm fairly certain my short .exe file injects the keypress into the input stream successfully, having tested it with a multitude of various virtual key codes. But Steam doesn't recognize it as a valid keypress, filling in "None" in the shortcut field. Testing the same method with a standard key like Scroll Lock works, despite Scroll Lock not being physically present on my keyboard.

In short I want to use a button no game can be expected to expect, so as to not make the steam overlay shortcut do something in-game.

Well i think scroll lock will be a good one to use for these, i mean Scroll lock is not used much today for most thing, its really pretty rare it is been used

Very few things still use it, but I'd still rather use some more obscure button. Scrol lock activates a system overlay prompt on my machine since there is no hardware LED indicator for it.

End/Home/Page up/Page down maybe?

I have those on the physical keyboard. I want more buttons, dammit.

O sorry i read it wrong XD
I was thinking you asking for a suggestion on what button use, not that the Sitings will notice the extra buttons

A modern keyboard has 100+ keys. That's plenty.

Yes and games like Arma use pretty much each one three times. Hence the need for an extra button.

Not to mention I already have to share a button between screenshot and other functions because detecting a PrtSc keypress is apparently somehow difficult for applications, even though I am pretty sure there is a way as I distinctly remember seeing AoE3 flash the logo on screen whenever it was pressed, so that it would appear on any screenshot but not distrub during gameplay.

In short, I am quite confident my problem is real.
