Crashing to Desktop - No Error (Rust & PUBG)
Just recently I started getting semi-regular CTDs without error while playing both Rust and PUBG. I've made sure all drivers are updated. Was having some other issues leading me to believe I had a failing PSU so that has been replaced. Specs are as follows:

Windows 10 Pro x64
Intel Core i5 (3.4GHz)
8GB DDR4
GTX750

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Take screenshots of all of the programs you have installed on your computer. Control panel then programs/programs and features. (Windows 7,8,8.1) or "apps" (Windows 10)

Click Windows Start and type in msconfig and run that resulting process. Go to the services tab and check the box on bottom "Hide all Microsoft services". Take screenshots of all that is left.

Then go to the startup tab on top of that same window(Task Manager in W10). Take screenshots of all that there also.

Post all the screenshots here, using a file hoting site such as imgur.com
CCleaner.

CCleaner has a monitoring mode setting area for monitoring your PC. Make sure all that is totally disabled.

ESET.

This is ESET Smart Security, yes ? If so...That is on the list here.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289

yep, I see it in the list below at the bottom.

I see one other one that 'may' be a concern...but I would wait on that one for now.

It is Intel Management and Security in your processes list.
Thanks alot for that. I've turned off all active monitoring within CCleaner. I had already had a firewall rule set in ESET to allow Steam through.

You are welcome, but please be aware...

You cannot always only consider the parent program. Some programs have other processes that come with them, and making exceptions or rules in the parent, or even disabling the parent, does not always take care of the child processes also.

Some like Norton, McAfee, and others have these processes and they can conflict also.

After you resolve all conflicts, you may need to restart the computer (if uninstalling software) then you need to verify the game files for any and all games affected.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

If the games still crash, we continue with the troubleshooting process andt try to help you.

EDIT....

For a specific example of what I am referring to above, look at ESET...

It has ESET service running in your services tab. That is a child process of ESET Smart Security, and the service process may conflict, where you have rules set in the ESET program itself.

Got it. So I completely disabled ESET, along with the active monitoring in CCleaner and am still getting crashes.

Your reply did not state that you verified the game files as suggested above. I can only assume, therefore, that you missed that step.

Uninstall ESET totally from your system, as the support page suggests also. Remember, software can easily be reinstalled later if you find that is not causing this.

We are troubleshooting. This requires first removing known possibilities. ESET is a known possibility. So uninstall it, restart the computer, then verify the game files all over again.

Then, we continue as needed.
Sorry I should have been more clear - i did verify game files after disabling ESET. I'll go ahead and completely uninstall ESET and try again - but I've been using ESET for years as well as Steam and this issue jus started happening reliably within the past week. Also not aure if it matters ive been also having issues with Windows update - having to restart multiple times to get updates to progress. I've used the Windows troubleshooter but it says it cannot fix an issue with the update database. I just have to keep restarting to manually do it.

Programs update and change over time. As well as your operating system. Things are not as they were before, so you being able to use the software all that time may be irrelevant.

Also, you have Google updater in your processes list in msconfig and I should have caught that one before. That one, or a similar process is on the support page.......

=Google Toolbar, Google Updater

You don't need all that stuff running when you are trying to game. Some "updater" and "manager" and "service" processes just eat up system resources and are not needed at all or while gaming. You just need to be careful what you disable.

But again, disabled is not always good enough, where the parent program may be the issue or part of it.

What is the issue with Windows update ? Then, that about the issue that lead to the PSU replacement above. If WIndows is not up to date, that surely can matter here.

Windows 10 also updates system drivers, as far as I know, so if there is an issue with Windows update, that needs to be fixed first.

EDIT..

Post the motherboard that you have, please.

My PC honestly has been sort of wacked since I got the upgrade to Win10. Anyway, with the updates, it will tandomly hang at a % downloaded and will not continue. I've let it sit overnight and it just hangs. So I have to continually restart and trick win update into continuing to download and install updates.

When I used Win troubleshoot to try and fix it, it determines it needs to 'repair windows update database corruption' and I click 'apply fix'. Windows then lists a bunch of problems found and shows that it has fixed them all.

When I got back to Windows Update tab, the Update Status is stopped and says 'there were problems installing updates...if you keep seeing this...this may help'
Error 0x8024001e (security update for OneNote)
Error 0x80070652 (Windows 10 Creators privacy update)

Random codes each time I go thru this process. Then I will check for updates again, and it will find some, and downloan part way..rinse and repeat.

Mobo is an Asus P8Z77-V LK

Thanks again
Windows 10 is "supposed" to keep your drivers up to date from what I understand (which I personally hate) but make sure you have them all up to date.

Is that the correct board ?

Also, run a system file check to see if Windows reports any errors. Make sure you use an elevated command prompt.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system-files

sfc /scannow

EDIT...

Was this an upgrade or a clean install of Windows 10 ?

Yes, that's the correct board and I can confirm I have all updated (Win10x64) drivers for audio/chipset/LAN/BIOS (1402), etc. Also, my RAM is on Asus QVL.

This was an upgrade of Win10 from Win7, not a clean install. I actually just downloaded the ISO file in case I have to use the nuclear option (can you tell me where I can find my product key for use on a clean install using the ISO file).

Running a system file scan did Windows did not find any integrity violations.
I am not sure about the key in this situation, sorry. I would suggest searching Microsoft forums or the site for that concern.

Some users do have issues after an upgrade. The only way to really install an operating system on a computer correctly is to do so cleanly, and that means full format and reinstall as you seem to be aware from your reply. I cannot say that is what the problem is, but I do know that other users in this forum have had that issue after an upgrade, where their OS just does not function properly or as expected.

The issue with Windows update is a red flag for sure, and that needs to be taken care of first. Have you searched on the Microsoft forums, using those error codes, or simple search terms to see if you can find any threads or others with a similar/same issue concerning Windows update ?
I fixed it. I had the same problem. No fix. So i decided to find my own. Go to windows defender options and search for refresh windows. It will reinstall windows without loosing data. But make sure after reinstall first launch steam and it will update. Do first time setup on the games you have and enjoy. I lovely play a marathon now but before it will crash every 10 minutes.
Has PR3DAT0R's approach worked for anyone else? I'm skeptical, but desperate at this point.
