I have used Avira for years here. No issues, and I am protected comfortably. Even the free version is pretty good.
I have also heard good things about Sophos.
I restarted the computer to complete 360's uninstallation. Since it didn't took more than 10 minutes I think you found a good part of the problem. ^^
If not, we will continue as needed. Make sure you TOTALLY get rid of McAfee also. See my previous post, concerning the product removal tool also, if it just will not fully uninstall using the normal method in Windows.
Window's normal method seemed to have done the trick, but I'll double check if anything of it is left.
With all that security software, one would think you should be fine, but covering everything as we try to help you is best. Malwarebytes can be downloaded for free also. Make sure to adjust the settings in the program to scan as intensively as possible, for everything. SAFE MODE is highly recommended, too.
It's quite the same timeframe as me, I'll go see if everything is okay.
P.S. Malwarebytes found 31 threats. xd
About safe mode, you should be able to do that from the same msconfig window, under boot tab, check safe boot and then restart the computer. You will have to undo this of course, using the same window to make Windows boot normally when you are done.
EDIT..Of course, hit "apply" then "ok" to close that msconfig window. Then restart the computer as prompted. Sorry.
I'm gonna do the scan later and gonna give news about it tomorrow at least.
I tried to do it, put it on custom so it would scan literraly everything, but the computer kind off crashed (no more taskbar, had to close it with the on/off button since I couldn't interact with much.) I'll do a scan again tonight when I'm gonna be sleeping. At least my head won't hurt then.
If not safe mode, can you give more information or details as to what exactly happened ?
Did you see a BSOD error ? (blue screen of death)
No ? It just shut off completely ? What happened, if you can tell ?
Mostly, what happened was that the task bar and all the shortcuts on the desktop disapeared. Since I had accidently closed the scan window, I couldn't re-open it since there was no short cut or taskbar to open it from. I decided to close the computer (holded the button until it closed) since I couldn't do anything. There wasn't any error or anything, I had a "microsoft window stopped responding" error (or something similar), but I thought it was just the window I was on that froze. When I closed it, the taskbar went away, and so did the desktop.
My guess is that the program that shows the menu crashed, since the computer was still responding/working with what was still open.
How did you install your OS on this computer ?
Or was it already installed ? Was this an upgrade to Windows 10 by chance ?
The problem suggests a hardware or OS issue.
