Manually go to where your Steam folder is. If you installed Steam in the default location, this is the program files folder.

Open it up and inside the Steam folder (not the program files folder) there should be a steamapps folder if you have games installed on your computer.

What is the exact wording of that error message you mentioned above ?

Does that error message always appear no matter what game you try to launch from your Steam library ?
there is no steam folder in the program files folder, and the error was just the game saying it could not connect to steam.

Then where is your Steam folder ? It should be where you originally installed it, of course.
i know, this isn't my normal pc but my laptop and i feel steam is just not installed correctly i'm currently uninstalling and reinstalling i'll let you know if i have any other issues thank you very much.
You are welcome, but if you are having a problem with Steam, then Steam is almost never the actuall issue. Thus reinstalling Steam won't fix anything usually. The usual issue is another program or process or other cause on your end that causes issues with Steam.

Also, you need to properly uninstall Steam before you try to reinstall Steam. You don't want to be trying multiple installations as that can cause all kinds of issues.

Yeah there was an issue with norton anti virus wasn't allowing me to install steam properly so its install destination was the desktop and steam couldn't install properly I fixed it and now steam is reinstalling in the correct destination, once again, thank you so much.

Oh my. There is a big issue.

Norton hates Steam. Reinstalling Steam surely won't fix that, as this will just keep happening if you keep Norton on that computer.

It has always been on this list...

and caused issues for many other users that I can link you to just a few of, out of many.
I don't have steamapps to :(
checked my program files searched "steamapps" and nothing what now?

Depends. Maybe your Steam installation is not in Program Files, but for example, maybe in Program Files(x86) ?

First, find the Steam folder, then open that up, and within THAT folder, is where the steamapps folder is supposed to be.

I just ran into the same problem, and it pains me to see that noone has yet to give you a concrete solution even after 6 years :'( The steam support/help request personnel are also quite unhelpful, only regurgitating a generic list of common causes which I clearly indicated does not cover ours above. Have you managed to resolve it since? I would love to know how too

The solution is to get rid of Norton. It and all other paid "antivirus" software today are little more than legitimized scareware. Norton alone is notorious for how irredeemably bad it is and how many issues it causes.

Also, this is a 6 year old thread that has been necro'd twice prior without context or followup response. If you're having an issue, open a new thread with full information and context instead.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
