Possible to disable controllers for steam?
So far steam has made it impossible for any of my controllers to connect wirelessly. I know its steam since they work perfectly fine with steam closed.

When ever I connect a controller to my PC steam always freezes up and sometimes crashes. It also does the same when ever I disconnect a controller.

It would be nice to know if its possible to completely disable big picture and its controller features so that steam stops turning them off when connected wirelessly.

Connect only one controller; and then load up Steam, simple as that really.

I am not going to exit and load up steam every 15 minutes just to turn my controller on. All I need to do is disable steam from recognizing the controller so I can use it normally.

Which controller exactly? Sounds like it has nothing to do with Steam Client.
It's almost always the user cause they have no idea how to set these up.
Disable everything in your OS related to USB Sleep Mode and you should be fine.
And use Steam Client Beta.

It doesn't really matter the controller, he just wants Steam to not recognize when he connects a controller, I don't think there is any option or command to disable this. Maybe there are people who can help in the Big Picture section?

It is only steam causing the issue. When ever steam is closed all controllers work as they should.

When ever steam is open, the moment I turn a controller on the client freezes up and crashes if I click it. The moment the client goes back to normal it turns the controller off.

But since it turned the controller off I need to turn the controller back on and repeat this process till steam decides not to turn it off.

But since the controller is wireless it turns itself off after 15 minutes when its been inactive to converve the battery.

Which means that I need to again repeat this process when ever I want to go and use the controller again in a game.

Then disable the controller support in Steam, very simple.

But first, opt into Steam Beta

So is this XboxOne Wireless Controller + Microsoft Adapter, or something else?

It does it for the Xbox One S Controller + Wireless Adapter yes.

I think I've found the issue. I found an old bluetooth dongle and tried connecting the controller that way. So far it seems to have worked fine as steam only hangs for about 2-3 seconds before going back to normal.

I thought it must've just been the Wireless adapter for the Xbox One S Controller.

However I just noticed that when ever I go to the controller settings in Big Picture, It says that the controller is Unregistered if it's connected via USB or Bluetooth. But if it's connected via the Wireless Adapter the controller settings says its Registered to my account.

Everytime I try to Deregister it, it automatically Re-registers my profile the moment I leave the options menu. So I'm guessing the registration profile feature is just bugged for the wireless adapter.

Then uninstall the USB Wireless Adapter and relaunch Steam.
