Cannot save gifts for later?
Is it no longer possible to buy a game and keep it in my inventory to gift later? The checkout insists that I choose a recipient immediately with no option to keep it in my inventory.

I've been playing a game I really like, and it's on sale now so I want to buy an additional copy in case one of my friends decide to join me later on. I have no idea when, if, and who will be interested, so I rather keep it first and wait.

Terrible people felt the need to scam other people with Steam gifts or resell them, so Valve removed that option.

Why couldn't they have limited the number of copies each person can buy? I can't imagine resellers making much out of a 4-pack

Because they would have just created more accounts to circumvent that.

Dammit. This is why we can't have good things

Yep. There's always someone abusing the system ruining it for everyone.

Damn. I liked stocking a couple copies of my favorite games when they're on sale, to gift to people I meet

also, everyone post to that thread and complain

I wonder if it'd be more efficient to create more threads, to create more surface area, for search engines to find, and be able to read. For people who also are having problems, to find more suitable places?

I agree this change is a terrible idea. I was planning to buy a game as a gift and save for later. Thanks to this policy change, I'm not going to buy it, so Valve is losing my purchase. Seriously Valve: Find more creative ways to curb abuse! Some form of gift verification or escrow for instance.

You can schedule the gift to be delivered later.
Not gonna tell Valve how to run their business, but they'll certainly be losing some sales from me. Exactly the original poster's problem, some games aren't worth the full price tag and it can be hard to sell a friend on playing a game, even if you gave it to them for free.
