You don't get a code from a text or sms, you get it either from the mobile authenticator or emails.

My friend. Go into the Steam app insteld, and click on the steam guard tab.

As long as it is set up correctly, codes are constantly generated by the app. You may get one as a push message if it can get it through, but they are always being made and you can just open the app / use the widget and post the current code on there.

i know i dont get a text or sms. im simply not getting the code on my mobile steam app. and the reason is because it thinks my phone is not the original device even though i just setup steamguard on it today and ive had that number for ages and its even been registered to my steam for years.

So when you go to the Steam Guard tab on your mobile app, what does it show?

YOu'll enter your code each time you enter your passworkd to sign in to your steam account.

remove authicator - after pressing it saids you cant change this setting on this sevice. you can only change the settings for your steam mobile authenticator on the device where you ste it up. etc etc

help

1) restart the phone
2) ensure the time on the phone is 100% accurate

What are you seeing on the device itself. What do you mean you 'dont see the code'. Is the code there but not visible? Is it asking for a new setup?

Note that the app generates steamguard codes constantly so you do not 'get' the code via sms or text. It generates a code every 30 seconds

i know this is old, but i just had the exact same problem. it's simple: i opened the app, clicked on "steam guard" tab, and there was NO code in there. Restarted my phone, did everything, and still no code, it was simply not working. So i had to recover my account to enter, and remove the mobile authenticator, so i could get the code by email.

This is how you fix it in almost all the cases!

1. Please make sure that the phone you will receive the future codes can receive text messages or SMS.

2. If your new steam app has a number that you can't use, you will need to first change your steam guard number. (If you don't know how to do this, it will be in the end).

3. Go to the app in the phone which you want to show the codes, If you're logged, log out of your account and try to log in again.

4. After you log again, it will probably ask you the steam guard code, which you probably have in your old phone, but you will not put any code, you will go to "Please Help", and click "Use this Device"!

5. Now, you just have to enter the code that they will send to you and you will be receiving the codes in your new phone :)

If you don't know how to change your Steam Guard Number you can do it by following these instructions. (Unfortunately, you must have your account logged somewhere, in your Pc, browser, or in some other device)

1. Go to your Steam account, click on your photo and go to Account Details.

2. Scroll down to "Contact info" and choose "Manage your Phone Number", then click in Change Number.

3. You can pick 3 options to change your number, you can choose by your preference.

Hope this helps! TB.

The issue I just had with it is that when my old phone became half-broken, I got a new one and switched the phone number over, and then used the recovery code to re-install the steam app and (I thought!) get it all set up correctly.

However, despite it appearing to be fully functional, it apparently still thought the Steam Guard functionality was only allowed on the old phone. I don't see the point of a recovery code that doesn't actually work, but....

I had to resurrect the old phone (with a flaky screen you have to physically hit to get it to work), so I could unregister it and then re-register it on the new phone.

On the new phone, before I did that, it wouldn't show any tokens to enter.
