Dishonored: Does anyone else feel overpowered?
Hey.

I'm interested to know whether you think Korvo simply has too much of an advantage over the guards/NPC's? I'm sure I'm about to shoot myself in the foot here by saying I'm playing on normal difficulty however I'm not slating the game, on the contrary I'm really enjoying the Thief-inspired stealth play.

Yet there I was, happily stalking my way through Dunwall Tower when it hit me: I'm a hacker.
I can see through walls, teleport about with reckless abandon and go walkies inside other people's noggins. Thinking back to Thief, or even Splinter Cell, you had to plan your moves carefully, be patient using the shadows and taking out all lights as you made your way around the level. Yet here I am, exploiting time and space without a care in the world thinking how much easier Thief would've been with this ability, and that's what led me to this cool story of a post: Is Korvo simply too overpowered for a stealth game? I mean, he's kinda like the Superman of sneaking, it's just not fair on poor old Garret or Mr. Fisher.

The only thing that gets me caught/killed is impatience.

Your turn.

Try playing it with the HUD off and not utilizing any of the supernatural powers. Entirely different experience.

Yep.... Not much to say really. I agree. I played the old splinter cell games, loved them. Played deus ex, splinter cell conviction, and dishonored. All great, although convictions campaign was somewhat dissappointing. Deniable Ops was a lot of fun though.

The see through walls mechanic seems to be in a lot of the new stealth games. Older ones didnt have it, at least none that I played. Conviction and Deus Ex even let you mark targets to keep track of enemies after you saw them through walls. Definitely makes stealth gameplay a lot easier.

I dont think any stealth game will ever beat Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. That one was damned perfect. Stealth Meter and Ambient Noise Meter, loved those two game mechanics.

P.S. - This thread should have been posted in the Dishonored section >.>

Chaos Theory is one of my favourite games ever, and I always play it stealthily.
So I do on my first Dishonored playthrough, and yeah... the difference is gigantic - but in a good way. Dishonored definitely isn't about hiding right under people's noses, it's about darting in and out at opportune moments, or other ways of avoidance.
Also, the level design clearly has its playstyles in mind - a lot more vertical space, a lot more alternate routes, but a lot of narrow hallways and better sightlines for the enemy.

Corvo is definitely overpowered, but it's still satisfying to get around your problems. Or right through them, but I haven't played like that yet^^

Play on Very Hard, the guards stop being nearsighted and take longer to "forget" about you if they think they've seen you. It's still a bit easy, but it makes for much more challenging stealth.

Being overpowered is kind of the point, you've got supernatural powers and access to some crazy gadgets made by the best inventor in Dunwall. With that said, I do hope the "seeing through walls" ability stops showing up in so many stealth games. It makes sense in some of them (the Batman Arkham games comes to mind) but it just makes it feel kinda lazy.

Yes, and I love it.

I played on very hard, no hud/markers, along with multiple playthroughs. I find the game to be very easy :|

There's a Dishonored section? I'm new to this forum. Oops.

And I know what you mean by 'older Splinter Cell games'. Chaos Theory was pretty cool but if you want a fantastic stealth game, albeit dated, Thief 2: The Metal Age wins hands down for me.

One other thing, either it's only on harder difficulties or just an over-sight but when guards become suspicious they don't move to the area where they saw you? They just stand there.

Tough to say at the moment - I'm after the first two missions (very hard, no interface, only blink) and that ... blink is just a bit /too/ convenient, though some situations would be extremely hard w/o it, if going after no kills and no discovery at the same time.

Otheriwse, nice to feel like in Thief again (with small differences ;)

Overpowered, but if you want to reach the best ending, you don't really can use any of these powers, and you can't make a killing spree either. So as I heard. I just finished level 4 and with the exception of Blink, I haven't used any superpowers (Blinking behind enemies is always fun. Then I take them down.). I also used sleeping darts for many. But I used my gun only to eliminate the primary targets (They deserved it.). And on this way, I'm not that overpowered at all. Actually I have to think how to take down every single enemy, one by one.

but did you play with no supernatural powers, like he said to do? they are very obviously the crux of corvo's extreme power.
