It would be useful if steam could automatically go online, or even to a steam community run destination, and automatically grab Grid icons, background screenshots, and game information for non-steam games. It would be better than having those ugly grey icons that just have text. I am thinking about Big Picture Mode here.

I think this is a fantastic idea, but it may get shot down as a perceived threat to Steam's business model. Valve may not be the most cynical business out there, but they are a business, and they may not like a game providing all the same apparent feature sets that the games you gave them money for do.

I'm wondering the same thing.

I want to add pictures to the games, instead of those gray blocks that I can't tell what the game is! Its really annoying.

Please add a feature where we can edit the steam files, and add our own thumbnails for each game on the grid.
