Huh? A box made specifically to stream over wifi isn't going to be that expensive. The only thing that can make my living room complete now is for valve to implement in-home streaming immediately and sell me a streaming dongle that can connect to my TV's HDMI port. That way I don't have to carry my 20 kilo machine down 2 flights of stairs every time I want to play Lego Harry Potter on the big screen.
Sure HDMI transmitter exists but those are quite awful, and the signal probably won't penetrate the floor. HDMI transmitter top box also doesn't send input signals from gamepads or mouse and keybaord.
I have been a console gamer forever, I find them more affordable & upgrades are only once every 7yrs. Both next gen consoles are as powerful if not moreso (for now) than most high end PCs. I still think streaming Steam on a consol would be a great idea & would definitely boost sales of major PC games.
Gaben where are you? :P
You could say that with any system.
I don't agree it would boost major PC game sales at all. I cannot understand why anyone would buy more games JUST because you have an ability to stream them.
Aside from the technical capabilities (they aren't as powerful as most high-end PCs - that's quite incorrect), the licencing/legal issues may be prohibitive. I can bet Sony and Nintendo wouldn't go for it, simply because why would they want a feature that draws sales AWAY from their platform? Software sales is where they make their profits, so this would be tantamount to commercial suicide.
Much as I love all platforms and use many different ones, I just can't see it. Even if these legal hurdles and the commercial suicide weren't a thing, I just can't see it being that much of a draw.
