The real reason is that Notch doesnt want steam taking a 30% cut on every copy sold.
And i cant blame him for it.

There is no reason for it to be on steam. There is no benefit to it. only downsides.
No it won't. Steam takes a 30% cut. Right now Notch gets 100% and the game is still selling well. He has no reason to give up 30% of his profits.
The artical is correct. The main reason is Steams reaquirements (including the 30%) and the controlled enviroment. RIght now he can do what ever he wants to Minecraft. Why give that up?
