Unlikely. It certainly won't be available for pre-order, won't be available at launch, and won't be available any time on Steam around launch date. Maybe in a year, but I think this is one of the EA titles that actually requires Origin in order to play.

It will be sold outside of Origin but you'll still need to register on and use Origin to play so a Steam release seems unlikely.

I didn't have too much trouble skipping ME3 or BF3, but SimCity is going to test my take on Origin. Then again, there's no shortage of games that I have yet to play, and that I want to play, that I probably won't bother. Still haven't tackled Anno 2070.

Simcity 5 is an Origin Exclusive (Similar to a Steamworks game). It also requires an always on connection.

Mine is another case of someone that would have bought BF3 had it been available on Steam. I have had too many bad experiences with games bought through other digital distribution platforms. I also have no desire to maintain multiple libraries of games between multiple services. Afraid to say that I will likely pass on yet another big EA title if I cannot get it here. :(

As much as I want this game, it is not enough to have yet another digital distribution client on my computer. I can wait indefinitely.

Oh and uh... a few games are missing if I were to even consider jumping ship to Origin, but given my lack of respect for EA, it's doubtful I would

I doubt it will be and im glad it wont. it looks like ubisoft and ea are banding together to compete with steam. considering steam no longer has the network capacity to run at peak hours, i think they need some competition to force them to improve their service quality. ive had trouble just loading their webpage in past weeks and they dont re-route their traffic efficient to use their network as best they can.

Origin however, seems to have quality download speeds and I don't see a reason to not readily use. While I dislike uplay, as they have pretty poor (very very slow) service. Additionally, EA is a major publisher, why shouldnt they compete with valve(steam)?

I have so many horror stores about steam, I am ready to now throw my money at EA. Heck, one of steams updates caused me to -have- to flash my motherboard so a game could work. WHO DOES THAT! I had a choice between risking wrecking my comp, or not playing a game i -paid for. Terrible service, want nothing to do with them, ready to move on, any company who can provide a quality stable service, can have my money. EA realized that people like me are demanding steam do better, and see they are refusing to do so.

Finally, have you ever tried to get tech support from steam... its a non-existant joke. EA has actual tech support.... It seems like a no brainer, EA appears to have a finished product ready to compete actively with steam, and ubisoft seems to also be fed up with them.

It will be easy to skip this game as it has consolitis. EA's service is about as good, and unuseful as Microsoft's service, but it's worse as you have to use their notoriously horrific EA servers.

"Yes, it has been announced as releasing first on PC, with a Mac release following sometime in the spring. It will be played through EA's Origin service, which is set to release on Mac alongside the game's release. It will be sold in other markets like Steam, as well as at retail for the PC version, with the Mac version only being available through digital download."

@Noizzzmaker -- TPB won't be able to get SimCity out unless they find a way to disable the always-on DRM. To play at all, you've got to be linked up to the net.

Buy the game on Origin then use that nifty 'Add non-Steam Game' button Steam gave us, no need to mantain 2 libaries. It's what I did with Old Republic and it works fine.
