Do you play right after getting a game or wait?
My friend and a lot of people on my Steam's friend's list always have like 10 or mores games in their library that they haven't even played yet. It just boggles my mind that people would buy games in a past sale and never even play them. When you buy a game, do you usually download and play it right away or wait for months and months on end until playing it?

I can understand that not everyone would have a lot of time on their hands for games, but why would they even get them if they knew they would be too busy?

Depends on if I have the space and/or bandwidth to download it. Some times I wait to finish another game and uninstall it, then download another game.

Sometimes there's just not enough time to play everything. I tend to wait until games drop in price and then buy them with plans to one day play them. I feel it's better to buy them when they're on sale now than have to hunt them down on eBay later on when the game is no longer being sold (Grr... Culdcept, Disgaea 1, Calling, etc...) So as such, my library has grown exponentially. And since I play one game to completion before moving to another game means that I've got quite the backlog. Months and months? Forget that... Years and years. I have Playstation 1 games I haven't touched yet.
Now that I can put games into my gift inventory easily, I seem to be hoarding them. Kind of like saving the excitement of 'opening' of a game for a rainy day. Also, I like to work on a few games at a time, keeping the rest uninstalled to save space.

But I have started playing a few games straight off, like Borderlands 2 (preordered), Batman Arkham City, Just Cause 2.

got a few games downloaded that I've just done a first time run on and not actually played yet. most of them in fact.

Games are really cheap right now. It is worth while to pick up games you will want to play later on, so that you don't have to pay an extra $10 to $20 later. Also, game bundles/indie bundles, they fill up and bloat your library like crazy...

Like Sloppy Seconds said, worth it to pick stuff up cheap now so you don't pay more later.
And also those Humble Bundles take up a bunch of my library... I can't really play all of the games right after I buy it (only have so much space). So even if I do start one or two of the games right after I buy it, some of those games are still going to have to wait till much later for me to get to them.

I don't mind waiting for the price to drop, buying, and then playing whenever I find the time... if that means I touch it 6 months later, that's fine with me... I do the same thing with art supplies and books, buy them when they're on sale... as a result, I'm currently roughly 20-25 books behind & have a pretty large stash of paints and canvases, oops? But I know I'll eventually use them and it's not like they're going to disappear from my shelves.
It's generally stuff I'd buy eventually anyway, and if I see the price is low enough (and unlikely to drop further in the near future), then yeah - I tend to go for it.

Yeah, a lot of the time, it's like.. I know I want this game, but I don't want to run out of things to play inbetween sales and have to pay full price. So it's just easier to buy it now. And I am in the middle of like, three story-intensive games that I haven't gotten through yet. So I check to make sure my games run on my system properly, but I want to finish my current games first..

I definitely wait...sometimes a very long time. To be honest (and I can admit), these sales for the games is my modern day baseball card collecting. Only when the deal is good will I purchase.
