Third-Person RPGs

I'm looking for a good third-person RPG that isn't a shooter or a top-down dungeon crawler. I would prefer something with a really good combat system.

That means no Borderlands, and no Diablo-style games.

Any suggestions?

Does anyone know anything about the Two Worlds games? The first one is pretty cheap, and I thought I might check it out, if it's any good.

Neverwinter Nights, Dragon Age: Origins, Drakensang and Knight of the Old Republic all have pretty good combat systems.

When everyone says that Witcher and Witcher 2 have more mature stories, etc. what kinds of things are they talking about? I'm interested, but I don't really want to get it if it has nudity and such. I thought I saw somewhere that it did. Thanks for the info.

I'm pretty sure there is a good deal of nudity and sex in Witcher. I would suggest you avoid it, if you're concerned about that.

And Skyrim isn't? Better then most the junk out there.

Mount and Blade was bad, didn't even get through the demo. Risen wasn't good either, I played it for an hour and ever went back.

Divinity 2 was more of a 3rd person action game.

lol i kinda agree acctualy ive never been one for elder scrolls myself the game has great ideas but the combat turns me away its just spam RT for a couple of seconds hold LT rinse and repeat more or less i wish bethesda would make a good fun engaging combat system.
but untill then fallout will be my favorite game by bethesda i still remember the awe inspiring vista from the start of the game when i left the vault and the running around in a circle for an hour looking for megaton >_< back then i didnt realise there was a objective marker =/

also the 3rd persona cam kinda sucks in skyrim which is why i didnt include it in my original list

You just described every 3rd person RPG there is. Mash a button and kill.

OP, two worlds 1 sucks ass. don't buy it. the second is okay and it has a really cool magic system, but the story, characters, and voice acting are all generic and bad. there's a demo on topware's website that I sugest you try. also look up videos of the magic system on youtube. visually it's spectacular. Angry Joe did a good video on two worlds 2

Have you seen war of the roses and the game chivalry they ain't shooters but these games don't get as boring as quickly

not really most of the 3rd person RPG's i play and listed back on the first page have more to the combat then skyrim mount & blade for example lets you attack in diffrent direction's and kick your enemie which may not seem like much but it's more engaging then skyrim.
the closest game's to how i explained it are KoA and Fable but even those games have more to the combat to make them more intresting

I agree with hawkes I have been an elderscrolls fan but the button mashing has gone a bit to far in games nowdays although the magic does look great now in sky rim and it is not button mashed and also fable is a great game, I loved fable 2 and now that is older it is relatively cheap

But for the money and experience, The Witcher 1 is amazing. The 2nd was fantastic as well, but the first is a must in my book. Played noth Two Worlds. Stories and voice acting are not good in either, but the 2nd is better. I guess if you want a rmore recent Final Fantasy Experiecne you can go for the Last Revenant. Dungeon Siege 3 was better than I expected, although it has more iof an action/RPG take. Noneof the games should cost more than $10 and will all give you your moneys worth in terms of game time.

While Skyrim is fun, it's definitely not meant to be played in third-person. I'm looking more for the third-person combat style.
