X13? Piston? Steambox?

I don't really understand what's going on with this.

So...X13 was making the steambox but got fired? So they repackaged it as the piston to be a competing product?

I can't seem to find good info on this.

Valve was promoting the Piston, giving them their "approval" to let people know that they think it's a good product. Now Valve see's that the Piston is a piece of overpriced crap, and are no longer backing it. Valve doesn't want their loyal fans to think they approve of this Piston because it sucks.

I've never understood the whole micro console thing since having a pc fills the same role.

The real Steambox is more of a local cloud gaming server that you can connect to several screens with jsut as many games being played at the same time. Think of it a OnLive, but not over the internet.

No one knows what Valve's own internal unit is. Spreading rumors doesn't help. This is nothing but pure speculation and is not based on anything even remotely grounded in reality or verifiable.
