Nvidia rtx compatibility with steam os
Anyone with an up-to-date Steam OS on a computer with an Nvidia RTX graphics card? Please share your experience.
I'm looking to build a console for my TV, and it would be great if it had the same OS as my Steam Deck. I love mods, and not all of them work on both Windows and Steam OS. And yes, my Windows is broken and needs to be reinstalled anyway.:lunar2019coolpig:

There is no up to date Steam OS available, as that most likely gets released at the same time (or some time after) the steam machine gets released.

But you can just install any linux distro you want instead....

There is no version of the PC SteamOS that is equivalent to the Steam Deck.

Your best option would be to find a good Linux Distro (as said above) and run Steam in Big Picture Mode, as that is close the same interface as the Steam Deck. Should get good performance too, if using better hardware.

NVIDIA's raytracing implementation for Linux is pretty much on par with Windows, that is to say, with supported hardware and the correct drivers RTX works well on Linux.

Some popular distros for gaming:
https://linuxmint.com/ - My proffered Disto as a general and gaming desktop.
https://archlinux.org/ - Steam Deck is based upon this Distro.
https://bazzite.gg/ - A fairly popular Distro (haven't tried myself) that is built for gaming.

The big picture mod doesn't have a decky loader plugin, and it doesn't feel like a console, just a gamepad launcher. I found Bazzite; I'll try installing it tomorrow.
Steam OS doesn't work with Nvidia, and the big picture console like experiences are buggy with Nvidia too. If you wan to do something like that, then get an AMD GPU.

Hence why I said "as that is close (to) the same interface as the Steam Deck."

Always best to try it out. Worst that could happen, is it doesn't work and you have to try a different route to get to the goal.

BPM works fine on my Laptop with Linux Mint, running on an Nvidia GPU.

I can't attest to the SteamOS though.
