when did Steam become moderated by reddit staff?
Only reddit has more ban-happy and power tripping mods than Steam Community, which thankfully still can't apply any permanent bans except for scammers and real criminals.

I remember well that bans were given only to serious harassers, spammers and toxic Aholes that threw profanity and insults in every post.
Nowadays even the slighted hint of disrespect is enough for a ban,

called someone a clown - 2 week ban
said that i hate russia because of their war crimes - 4 week ban
called someone a liar - 3 week ban
made a political topic in Off Topic - 1 week ban
called someone a terrorist scum because they were justifying murder - 2 month ban.

what the hell happened? how is this allowed??
i thought only people aged 16+ are allowed to use steam, so why is our speech policed like we're in a kindergarten???
not even facebook and twitter were this bad!

All I got was a warning for saying "some Steam users act like they have reading comprehension below that of ADHD-having 2nd graders hooked on crack" in a relatively peaceful on-topic thread. Although the colorful language seemed funny, I'm glad to see competency, even if some Steam users really DO flat-out ignore details and type like NPCs when trying to one-up you. My point being that obvious tonally dissonant stuff gets removed and derailed threads often get locked, but they give you SOME wiggle room instead of being as hugbox-y as community guidelines imply.

Nto surprised though.

That's pretty bang on against the rules as it's pretty derogatory against disabled people. You might not like that or even agree but they are the rules.
It is even literally moderated like kindergarten. I called someone a "class clown' in jest and was banned for that.

Moderation is by far the biggest complaint on the Official Discussions.

And 90%+ of those complaints are unjustified, because the post history of the complainers show that they deserved it.

Don't insult people and 80% of your problems with moderation will dissapear.

I can't coment on the rest because I don't have the full info. But calling people names is a surefire way of getting mods on your rear.

It's on the rules:
Be respectful of yourself and other players
Interactions with other players should not be abusive, disparaging, or inflammatory, nor create an environment that is unwelcoming.

Examples of disrespectful content include:
Insults or harassment

*From a small subset of Steam users who casually also repeatedly clash with moderation.

Lol, if that's against the rules, then one got serious problem running a business. Steam/valve mission statement is for the leftist narrative. Anything outside of that gets the ban. In a way the leftists created their own echo chamber.

The above user comment doesn't go against the rules. It's the leftists fee fees are hurt, therefore smashing the report button and silence the particular user. One can say the exact wording as in above and not get banned elsewhere. Even Reddit allowed it.

Lmao, none of these above is ban worthy. Not even close to insults. One would has to say racial slurs then the person should be banned. What I see the the leftist fee fees got hurt and smashing the report button. .. Lmao...

So calling someone 'terrorist scum' isn't an insult?
Better question. Why do people think making a thread will do anything about their bans?

There's no free speech here, never has been.

A 15 year old account should know this.

The exact point was when the volunteer mods got retired and the paid mods took over.

You are welcome.

bloody hell, isn't the whole point of paid mods is to do proffesional work? why are they doing a worse job than people who literally did it for free?
Unfortunately no longer the case since mid-2022. I reported so many offending posts and threads in the Tokyo Xtreme Racer hub and some were deleted if not all. The last straw came when I got a justified one-month ban for saying rage-baiters deserve life imprisonment.

This is not factually true.

Yeah.............
It is ironic because there are people that make disrespectful content but receive no sufficient punishment. Even with report, they are many report which are left ignored. This render FAQ not useful since they do not take action fast.

This is not factually true.

Perhaps not absolutely true. But people who get moderated aren't having their names drawn out of a hat either. Lots of people seem to be able to behave themselves, and some people aren't able to and want to complain about the consequences. That is factually true. It's what every insufferable malcontent has done as long as there's been forums.

Then explain why there are folk who break rules do not receive punishment enough? There are many report filed against them and Valve do not do anything about it, and they continue to cause trouble with out comeuppance.

read my OP, none of the things i brought up should be bannable offenses.
anger is allowed to be expressed on the internet, so is contempt
and yet the mods ban people just for "disrespect" how the hell does it make sense? we aren't kids that need a santiized enviroment, adults should be able to handle disrespect without needing to tattle to the grown ups
