Since you bought it second hand, they can't give you any information about it.
Gamestop does warn that only they warranty it, before purchase. If they didn't I'd make sure you double check.
Then why didn't you just purchase it directly from Steam?
Gamestop handles all refurbishing and warranties if you buy from them.
So buying it second hand, you do not get a warranty through Valve for the device.

Ex... You purchase a PS5 from Wal-Mart, it goes missing, you don't complain to Sony about it, right?
Depends on if it really was stolen.
At the least, if they tried to get work done on it, then Support would say if it was or wasn't and deny or accept service for it.
They are not likely to do more then that and if they did, the owner has proof of purchasing it from GameStop, so should be in the clear.
