Please do not bend the knee to defamation
Just wanted to say I support Steam's current moderation and policies. ADL collecting community content regarding hate symbols is a joke. Outside of Pepe non sense, any other real-life hate symbol listed can easily be from a game or a mod, not promoting the hateful ideas but even a simple screenshot can get into their list.

As an average Arma 3 enjoyer, I have gone through countless mods and there are some mods adding real-life factions such as WW2 Germans, Middle Eastern terrorists etc. But it's in the game's core, you can play as good guys or bad guys, just like every other game involving factions competition. One player having a good time with friends playing those mods, then posting a screenshot is not promoting hate. Arma 3 is just a very good but only one of those examples.

What ADL doing is simple defamation, they don't specify what content includes, what it actually is or what's the actual background information on the post / comment / screenshot / workshop mod or whatever it really is.

I support Steam's current policies, I have crossed my line and got warned a couple times before, rightfully so. Anyone promoting hate speech should be receiving warnings and actions, totally behind that. But please do not change your policies over people's creations as it will lead only to downfall of Steam community usage and shift of workshop content to 3rd party websites.

I wanted to share my opinion on this, but not sure exactly where I could deliver it, sorry if this is not the exact place for this.

Thank you.

ADL are just as much extremists as those nutjobs they claim to warn us about.

This is no different from all the other BS: blaiming an outlet for something utterly stupid people have done. Instead of, I dunno, holding those people accountable for their own actions because thousands of other people have been exposed to the exact same outlets, yet without any issues?

For example... I'm a metal head, I don't listen to it as much as I used to but back in the days... oh boy. And I'm not necessarily talking about rock, I'm talking about bands like Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Megadeath... especially Slayer has some pretty controversial stuff on their CD's ;) Some of my favorites being: South of Heaven, Expandable Youth, Angel of Death, Hell Awaits, War Ensemble and what about Raining Blood to name but a few?

Lo and behold... I didn't turn into some murdering nutjob, despite more than often being exposed to some pretty controversial lyrics ;)

One can argue the same about adult entertainment. According to some this is also highly controversial because "obviously" it's much safer to see someones brain getting blown out vs. an explosed female b00b.

This whole ADL nonsense is simply more of the same.

Heck, can't you see what this really is? It's a business model, a way to try and earn cash at the expense of others. No more, no less.

It's not the first time ADL has attacked steam. Steam might ignore it again unless it develops into a big enough uproar that forces them to lawyer up

The ADL will not expand it's censorious authoritarian blasphemy laws on us! Stand against them!

Steam generally removes hateful content (even if they can be slow to do so), so it's generally fine. I have reported plenty of groups, profiles, etc. which post that kind of content or otherwise breaks Steam's rule against discriminatory content. It's impossible for them to get rid of every single thing though and what isn't reported isn't acted on which I would say is the main issue, there is nothing proactive about Steam's current moderation which is why there are lots of things which just aren't moderated.

I think it's because some people look at the populist movements and they think "where are these people getting their information"? They blame the populist movements on these online communities.

Whereas I personally think in reality the populist movements are rooted in a desire to disrupt a nebulous concept of "the elite or "the 1%", by any means necessary. Ones above marshal this interest for their own ends, and it results in the force being redirected; in Trump's case, almost 180 degrees.

No. Then you do not understand anything and you have learned nothing. If you write that, you try and take both positions at the same time. Not okay.

I only mean a directed and provocative statement to harass, which are being handled under TOS already, anything like "I hate X group, they are such idiots, they should be ripped out of this world" kind of thing. Other than that, I'm totally fine with everything else.

according to the report there are close to 1.83 million swastikas and similar symbols on this site. I don't know about you guys but I've been here way over a decade and I have not seen a single one. So I sincerely doubt it's a wide range issue. There are probably a few groups or individual accounts spamming this stuff at times, especially new accounts with nothing to lose who just want to troll.

Well, that or it's all the screenshots of people who play Wolfenstein / Hearts of Iron which I would be totally willing to believe given the stupidity of bodies like the ADL.

edit: Just found out the Nr.1 hate symbol they keep yapping about is literally the Pepe the Frog meme. It has more instances than all other hate symbols combined. Maybe that number could change further to make the study look even more stupid...

From what I read about them - they seems to be the same as "Hope not hate" from Britain which is in the name of "racism" going after Tommy Robinson for his reports about mass imigration and the threat of islam. And they removed others aswell who opposed globalists and islamists in Britain.

There is more of such organisations - they have all the right titles of helping and protecting, but what they actually do has nothing to do with freedom and democracy, they hide other staff behind it, and they quite often protect bad activists. It seems like they are connected to globalists, communists and islam, which are trying to control and/or destroy western democracy and they use jewish history (or "me too" with women or BLM and such) as their shields.

Sadly lately you really need to connect the dots and think and refuse to do the harmful staff and unite with anyone who would oppose them, because you will need all the allies. Because I don't think they will leave, it will only get worse. Steam is simply too much free for their liking.

Wasn't the adl originally created to protect someone guilty of doing stuff to a child?
I have never taken them seriously either way & most companies don't take them seriously, it just seems to be "anything criticizing us is antisemitism" which is not a valid response, nor is creating or parroting hoaxes as if they're real.
I doubt anyone at Valve or ARMA 3 cares what the adl thinks.

I agree 100% with anyone who dislikes any type of hate speech.

Here's the thing, though ... I want to see it properly defined by a person before I agree to their definition of it. Some people have a tendency to redefine it to fit their needs.

If I believed the Liberals ideas of hate speech I would have been ignorant enough not to vote Conservative. See, their idea of hate speech is what they hate ... not actual hate speech.

I don't personally use the word hate. I think people who hate have lost their direction in life.

As for respecting Steam moderation I do ... even though I don't always agree with their methods. Steam own this site so I am pretty much forced to respect moderation here anyways. You are lying to yourself if you believe otherwise.

Look ... it is up to each gamer to protect gaming. You are doing what you feel is best to protect what you like doing.

I certainly don't promote what ADL is doing if they aren't exactly defining what they consider a symbol of hate. Collecting them for who BTW? Who is going to be judging these alleged hate symbols anyways. They say that? When someone is trying to bend you over it pays to know why they are doing it.

This smells like the kind of thing Liberals would be doing anyways. Wouldn't surprise me if they were behind this.

Don't worry. It was the same when CS was released many years ago.

"Ohhhh why can you play as the bad guys! We don't want games that depicts the bad guys! Iiiiiiiiaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh the police should be in jail, not in our games!"

"Anyone promoting hate speech should be receiving warnings and actions, totally behind that."
