Just wanted to say I support Steam's current moderation and policies. ADL collecting community content regarding hate symbols is a joke. Outside of Pepe non sense, any other real-life hate symbol listed can easily be from a game or a mod, not promoting the hateful ideas but even a simple screenshot can get into their list.

As an average Arma 3 enjoyer, I have gone through countless mods and there are some mods adding real-life factions such as WW2 Germans, Middle Eastern terrorists etc. But it's in the game's core, you can play as good guys or bad guys, just like every other game involving factions competition. One player having a good time with friends playing those mods, then posting a screenshot is not promoting hate. Arma 3 is just a very good but only one of those examples.

What ADL doing is simple defamation, they don't specify what content includes, what it actually is or what's the actual background information on the post / comment / screenshot / workshop mod or whatever it really is.

I support Steam's current policies, I have crossed my line and got warned a couple times before, rightfully so. Anyone promoting hate speech should be receiving warnings and actions, totally behind that. But please do not change your policies over people's creations as it will lead only to downfall of Steam community usage and shift of workshop content to 3rd party websites.

I wanted to share my opinion on this, but not sure exactly where I could deliver it, sorry if this is not the exact place for this.

A lot of the stuff from that report is from user profiles with no games or groups with two members.

If they had reported the content and tracked how long it took to be removed, it would have been a much more useful report. Just saying "we found 90,000 swastikas and we're not telling you where they are but we are going to be angry at you for not removing them" doesn't help anyone.

Odds are the reason it hasn't been reported already is that they were the first people other than the person who posted it to see it.

I don't know how the ADL is taken seriously anymore. They have their favored groups. If you say something negative about one of those groups they act like they're Anti-defamation. But if someone in those groups attacks other people suddenly defamation isn't so bad a thing.

Over half of those hateful symbols were Pepe the Frog. A meme. The ADL is literally angry that a ridiculously tiny minority of people have posted a frog meme.

A swastika is just a 'meme' as well, if you're going to go down that path.

Honestly, I'd love to convene a 'meme jury' of regular citizens to look at all the hate speeches, let the ADL say why they're hateful and let a random steam user try to defend it.

So you're saying pepe has only been posted 1m times? Nope that's how many times it was posted with a hateful message telling people to kill minorities.

1 million pepe avatars on steam actually sounds like a reasonable number if you're including the ones that are just the frog with nothing obectionable.

They're not talking about how many images of pepe the frog exist on the entire internet. They're only talking about Steam. And there are a lot more people who don't have pictures of a cartoon frog on their profile than people who do.

Well, as i've said in the past, if moderation was doing their jobs tending to these more important matters, rather than banning, and appeals and the rest over "poopie head" comments or whatever other nonsense these unqualified people are spending time on, they would not be being looked at now by DHS, GAO, and now CIA committees on these serious issues.

Moderation needs to be sacked, and brought into the US, and out of Europe, with qualified people.

Ages need to be raised in access to the forums. 13 is ridiculously too young.

I recommend watching the documentary film "Defamation" by Yoav Shamir to see the important work the ADL does. One counted instance of ADL registered anti-semitism includes not granting a jewish employee a vacation day with one day notice.
