Haven't Given Steam Money In Over A Year
Feels good man. The reason: Community moderation, dishonest and defaming bans, junk games, more importantly failure to protect the consumer from EA scams.

Steam's totally anti-consumer. Until they turn it around Epic and others get my dollar.

The only people who lament actually good free games being given to gamers, points earned to assist with future discounts on games, are shills from a competitor. Epic is superior. The only clout steam users can use is "forums."
No, that's not true. I use all platforms and launchers, including Epic, but I still see the business model Epic utilises as a bad thing for gaming and gamers. Their strategu is not to further gaming or promote devs, but to hurt other stores. It's the Walmart principle.

The main problem Epic still has is their lack of relevant catalog. As long as they keep a limited catalog that doesn't cater to people outside the mainstream and popular stuff, they'll never become real big. Just as GoG limits themselves.

And please stop this stupid nonsense black & white "us vs them" thinking you're doing. It's ridiculous. The world is all kinds of grey. Plenty of people here have simply opinions without any stupid agenda behind it.
oh ffs.

The strategy of Epic is to get people on their platform.
Epic is trying to create a competitive market, and Valve is doing everything it can to prevent it, so the only one out there trying to "hurt" other stroes, is Valve.

Epic is not the one using anti-consumer practices to eliminate price competition..that's Valve.

Epic is not the one threatening to de-list games if a developer sells them cheaper elsewhere...that's Valve.

Epic is not the one gouging developers for 30% of each sale...that's Valve.

Epic was not the one fined $4.000.000 for willful copyright infringement...that was Valve

Epic is not the one that was finned $1.600.000 for illigal GEO blocking...again...that was Valve.

Epic is slowly adding to its library, whereas Valve does not give a rat's ass what you sell, or if you even finish what you're selling as long as Gabe gets his cut.
If you were to take a step back and actually look at STEAM's library, you would see just how much of it is total garbage.

Valve / STEAM is worse for games and gamers than any other thing or service out there, so please, spare us such ridiculous comments and claims.

If Valve was anybody else, you would be paying for Steam years ago.

There would be a billion different external account links for farming purposes.

There would be incentives to use Source.

There would be attempts to create revenue streams from Source tools like SFM.

There would be persistent ads for Valve and Source games.

There would have been partnerships aimed at going after other areas of the industry that others have a foothold in.

If Epic were to succeed with EGS, it would control game development at both ends. You're looking at an even worse monopoly than Valve, in the hands of a company with none of the counterculture dance-to-your-own-tune ♥♥♥♥ that Valve has.

Epic sells cheaper because it has nothing else to use. Loss leaders are done with expectation of return later. EGS is not going to be selling Costco hotdogs forever, unless you're paying for Unreal somehow, or paying for EGS.

Software is profitable, maybe the margin could be lower, but nobody in a position to bump Valve is to be trusted with a lower margin.

Cloud gaming will soon put immense pressure on things either way. It remains to be seen if Microsoft will not dominate.

It's basically a monopoly now, with no way to virtually interact with the company, a faceless soulless money maker for the oligarch owner.

You too could become an oligarch with pits of soulless money if you work really hard for decades but I guess you won't, you'll still be here in twenty years time complaining about how much someone has and you don't...
Lost me at Epic, at least say GOG, not Epic the wanna be monopoly and a pretty shady business, they are worse than EA

Newsflash no platform is your buddy nor cares about you, they are in it for profit, if they are giving you free stuff is because they still need to do so to get users

Steam is not the one trying to actively block people from buying games somewhere else (exclusivity), forcing people to download their app and make an account for games that aren't even theirs or accuse other business of being a monopoly when trying very hard to be a monopoly themselves

BTW you are still supporting Steam by using it

My model is to buy elsewhere unless forced to buy on Steam.
A soulless company with no human interactions...where does the money go?
I use the forums to push for freedom and when I see wrongs.

Same place it goes when you buy elsewhere.

Thing is, what other companies in the same sphere are any better in the metrics you claim?

Forced? The only ones trying to force people to buy are those blocking games releases

Just buy where you want and use the platform that works best for you, something being more popular doesn't make it a monopoly

Every company is soulless and the money goes to their bank account just like any other business

You could just post on x or reddit, if you use those you don't support Steam and it has a better chance to be seen or do something than here

Very strange statement. I think Valve is the most customer-oriented company.
