STEAM downloads slow for the past month or so
I used to be able to download anywhere from 25-50 GB in 10-15 minutes, if that. Now it is taking hours and when I look at the download progress it constantly stops and starts. Going from 5 minutes to 1 day to 3 hours to 1 hour. I tried stopping the firewall temporarily, setting the priority of STEAM on high in the task manager, checked all the STEAM download settings and have no bandwidth limitations, even tried changing the server from Miami to New York.

Whaaaat is going on.

Here somethings that come to mind might worth checking out.

- Ensure you didn't set any download limit via Steam settings.

- Clear download cache via Steam settings.

- Change download server to whole another country from another region via Steam settings.

- Restart modem and/or router by unplugging it power, then plug it back in after a minute. If it works then means modem and/or router has issue, and just needed a restart.

- Check your modem and/or router to ensure have nothing blocked via their settings.

- If using VPN/proxy, may cause issues you're having.

- If using custom DNS service depending which one may cause issues.

- If using 3rd party software to manage apps behavior, incoming, and out going traffic, or even 3rd party anti virus affecting other apps.

- If using custom firewall, pi hole, or etc, and blocking thing could affect things, might want to look into that.

- Flushing your network might fix things, open command promt as admin, and give this a try, then restart PC and test, do things in order.

netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset

If not working still try these in order, then restart PC, and test.

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

- Redownload Steam client, head to where you install Steam, go into folder, delete everything except for "Steamapp" folder, and "Steam.exe" file, once done run Steam.exe see if issue resolved.

I usually ran Miami but I changed it to New York then Atlanta. Seems to be a little better but nothing like the speed it used to be.

I did most of that, but I will try the bottom one. It definitely has to do with STEAM because my download/upload speed is good. Hm, strange.

check windows update, maybe its blocking or obstructing something.
run sfc /scannow (which will fix windows update)

If that is not it, idk.
I assume its because of something microsoft provided recently then, unless you yourself installed recently that caused this.

Try using network analysis tools and see what your internet is actually doing in total while you download, and also keep an eye on your hardware and processes using the hardware
Process Explorer for example can do these things
maybe it will clear something up for you.

Steam can obliterate 1gbps connections

Your download speeds are primarily limited by

1) your cpu
2) your disk IO
3) your anti-virus
4) your ISP

Lmao, you know what I accidentally did and didn't notice? My destination folder was my USB drive, I noticed it and changed the destination and my downloads were back to taking roughly 5 minutes per game.

Major brain fart moment.

It happens to the best of us, at least figure it out.
