I'd say probably a few years from now. Home and Pro hit total EoL in 2025, and Valve has always held support for a few years after an OS fully ends. My estimate would be 2028-2030, or whenever usership drops under 5% of Steam community total, whichever happens first.
2025 then?

Look at Windows 7, Microsoft stopped supporting it in Jan 2020. Valve won't stop until Jan 1st 2024

"Windows 10 will reach end of support on October 14, 2025. The current version, 22H2, will be the final version of Windows 10, and all editions will remain in support with monthly security update releases through that date. Existing LTSC releases will continue to receive updates beyond that date based on their specific lifecycles."

Valve has continues support for other versions of Windows about 3-4 years after Microsoft ended support. This also tends to follow along with with support of Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) for those OSs.

This points to a very rough estimate Steam not working on Windows 10 in 2028/2029.

Official support from Microsoft will end in October 2025.
But Valve has never stopped supporting a OS at the same time, usually they continue to support it for another 3-4 years, just as they did with Win 98, XP , VISTA and now Win 7.
So i dont expect the Steam client to switch to Windows 11 or higher before 2028/29 or so.

Windows 10 will continue to receive updates until 2025. Considering that Valve has supported all Windows years past their official EOL, there's plenty of support left to go. Even if there isn't, most Windows 10 users will be on 12 or later by then.
last security update according to computer for alle, for windows 7 was this year, in january. last security update for windows 10 was may 2023.

Valve will support Steam on an OS as long as Steam can run on that OS. Win7 can't handle the security update that Steam is getting 2024. Which is why Steam won't function on Win7.

With Win10 and 11 being pretty similar odds are it's going at least more extra years than Win7 which was originally Vista Service Pack 3.
windows 10 and windows 11 is very different. windows 10 uses local storage for profiles, though it supports cloud. windows 11 is cloud only. with my limited internet i can use windows 10, as that can be used offline but, not windows 11. steam support said that the reason they stopped supporting windows 7 is security concerns.

Microsoft ended support for Windows 7 in 2015. And keep Extended going for nearly a decade. I'm sure Windows 10 will be the same.

The way I see it, two things need to happen before Valve will pull the plug on Win10. First, a planned update that is not compatible with the OS. Second, only a very tiny minority of Steam users using the OS. This is how it's been every other time they've dropped an OS, and it has always been beyond the actual retirement of the OS.

Others have guessed late 2020s or early 2030s, if we use history as an indicator that sounds about right.

Not until the userbase drops to single digit percentages. Win 10 currently has 60% share of Steam userbase. So likely around 2029/2030.

That's not true. AFAIK creating local user profiles is limited only on Home edition of Win11. I guess removing local profiles support in Windows will be a thing when Microsoft rewrites it's codebase entirely, purging parts from WinNT times.

From what I have heard, some versions of Windows 10 are already unsupported by Steam. But I can not find any official system requirements on steampowered.com.

MICROSOFT will support Windows 10 version 1809 RS5 LTSC until the end of 2028 with security updates. This version was fully compatible with Steam before this new UI update, but I don't know the current status.
