[SOLUTION] To Revert To Old UI

Im on Win7, dont know exactly how the first steps will looks on newest Windows
In short

• Close completely Steam
  
• Create Shortcut for Steam.exe
  
• Right Click on Shortcut
  
• Properties
  
• Target (It should have path to original .exe file)
  I have "C:\Steam\steam.exe" or Default "C:\Program Files\Steam"
  
• Paste This in after Path from previous step (It will download old version of Steam)
  -forcesteamupdate -forcepackagedownload -overridepackageurl http://web.archive.org/web/20230531113527if_/media.steampowered.com/client -exitsteam
  
• Open Steam via Shortcut
  
• Wait until it finish update and will close
  
• Delete previously pasted code (remember to not delete path to .exe file)
  
• Open Steam Main Folder
  Default "C:\Program Files\Steam" or Your Location
  
• In this folder create File "steam.cfg" (.cfg Needs To Be File Extension, not steam.cfg.txt)
  
• Paste This in our "steam.cfg" File (It will prevent form Automatic Updates)
  BootStrapperInhibitAll=Enable
  BootStrapperForceSelfUpdate=False
  
• Open Steam, should looks normal again
  
  I think its everything
  It looks normally, dont know if every function on Steam will work
  If You want to again download Newest Version, delete "steam.cfg" from Main Steam Folder

Edit: No matchmaking can not connect on May 30th VGUI Client.

They blocked access to matchmaking servers on old client, can't play dota2 or csgo matchmaking. Had to concede and install newest steam and it works.

First people using the old version of steam lost Friends List .. now matchmaking.. it seems it really is exactly as I predicted: Slowly they are removing functions for the old steam client one at a time. I wonder what will be removed next. Hrmm.

I think that piece of info at bottom of OP's post was added recently? I can see Steam hitting 1gb memory now at times so must have reverted somewhere : (

no clue but matchmaking under cs2 seems working,using old steam release ( april ) i can join a lobby and also get kicked by the owner of the lobby i joined , because, well i am level 0 xD

I installed the latest version (Sep 12th at the time of writing) to try CS2 and it's horrible. Lag and glitches all over the place, 1GB idle RAM use, 1.5GB while in-game. The overlay is extremely ugly, every click takes like 3 seconds to process at the very least. Back button goes back to Library/Store page when im trying to go one page back on the forum, it's so much less functional.
Did a full backup of my May 30th Client and now I'm back on there with old friends list.

That's the trend in software development now, how can everything waste as many resources for as little functionality as possible and having a ugly phone UI.
Uplay was great, Connect is much worse, current Beta is a disaster.
Origin was great, EA Desktop is barely functional.
GFWL worked 99% of the time, the Windows Store never does.
VGUI era Steam used to be the peak example of how functional software should be made and now it's yet another annoying, ugly, broken ripoff of the rest of this trash industry.
GOG Galaxy 2 is worse than 1.2 too especially since it was abandoned but guess what 1.2 still works and you don't even need to use it to begin with so once again, major L for DRM platforms today.

I don't use epic anymore and criticized them relentlessly in early 2019 for the absolute trash UI but I really do wonder how it holds up after 4 years worth of updates, did they actually go out of their way like everyone else to make sure it remains the worst or did they just leave it as is which may mean it's among the more functional clients in current year, funny how things work, also quite sad..

After months they still didn't fix the back button, unreal. How the ♥♥♥♥ they realeased this crap UI??

can you share that back up?

My Steam folder without games is 16GB, it has a ton of old stuff, modified files, identifying files and I'm too lazy to clean it up. You should be able to use the launch command to force update server as a Wayback Machine URL of media.steampowered.com from back then to pull a clean install of the May 30th Client (or whichever you prefer).

try find any match and you will get error about failed connect to steam servers

Checked clients:
dates dec. 2022, june 2023 and july 28 2023 (last supported vgui client) and cs2 work only in latest stable client with new ui((

Completely agree with this. Couldn't say better. And this is exactly what we get now: less functionality for more resource consumption.
