LOL I once came across a review that spoiled the ending of a game, without any alert. This isn't about self control, unless you have psychic powers you really can't predict what a YouTuber is going to say in a video.
It's for me. Apart from getting actual gameplay footage sometimes.
If a game has multiple endings and you are forced to play through the whole game again to get one, yeah, I am watching a video of it.
So it's your own fault for reading an article that you didn't know contained a spoiler and that had no indication or warning? Like, dude, why do you even read an article or review if you are interested in a game?
Why?
Yes, I'm paying attention how much I have to look up to proceed -- but, as long as games like to not provide relevant information, I'll look it up on guides.
As for Youtube, if I liked a game, and I stumble onto a decent Let's Play, I'm happy to subscribe.
And yet people are always being told here that they should inform themselves by reading reviews and watching videos of games, rather then just buying them and relying on Steams refund system to get their money back if they don't like it.
One pretty good way to get informed about games is to find a reviewer who does good reviews and who's into about the same genres are you are. I bought a couple games because one specific dude made videos about them.
Nice, great idea.
Btw, you can also find many spoilers in game hubs, without people alerting about them.
If someone wants to make a point that any piece of content that contains spoilers should have a clear warning on it, I'm all in favor of that. But if someone wants to make the point that spoilers should not be included in any content at all, then I certainly oppose that notion.
But at the end of the day, if someone if worried about inadvertently seeing a spoiler, then the choice is entirely up to them whether they want to risk viewing the content or not. Here's a funny story - somebody I used to game with always used to contact the content creator before viewing an article or video if there was no clear spoiler warning just to make sure the content contained no spoilers. It seemed to work out fairly well for him as I remember.
