Start with the company name, Valve.

Valve called their digital distribution platform "Steam" because it symbolizes the idea of a powerful, pervasive force that delivers games directly to users, much like how steam itself spreads rapidly and reaches everywhere; essentially representing the seamless distribution of games across the internet.

Oh, that's very interesting. Did you figure that by yourself or someone told you?

This isn't the first time someone has asked here nor the 100th time.

That occurred to me. And you were always there to tell them why.

Only once or twice.

And why is Valve called Valve? I bet you don't know that one.

But Valve wasn't their only choice...

This one always made me chuckle...

This also made me chuckle:

"Valve was all about controlling the flow of an entertaining experience having your hand on that knob deciding when to turn it up, turn it down..."

Guess I don't have to explain why.

The image from that game only let players/users think they had any control whatsoever when in reality, they just :taloslol:'ed at you.

I see, so Valve always liked to troll their customers!

I figured it had to do with when Half-Life 2 came out and no one expected they would have to download the game even though they bought a disc. If you aren't careful with steam you get burned.

Wasn't there a warning in the box or something?

Just says "Internet connection required" under minimum system requirements. At the time that was taken to mean for multi-player as it was common then. It does not convey it's needed just to install the game.

Steam had already been a thing for a while before Half-Life 2 was released. :spazwinky:
