Why is Valve called Valve?
I guess the name steam came from their name valve so why are they called valve?

They wanted to be the conduit in which you get all PC stuff.. they are the ones that are in control of the valve controlling the flow of games/applications into your head.

Valves can be shut off..

Its their name they chose.

Why is Twitch called, Twitch? Why is Facebook called Facebook. There are questions to many odd choice company names, but fact is, that's what they are.

I thought it was related to the name valve.

I think the Valve was always to let off Steam[dictionary.cambridge.org].

Facebook is pretty self-explanatory.

Correct. Valve existed before Steam. The name has nothing to do with Steam.

From what i remember the Valve guys all drove Volvo cars and wanted to name the company after this excellent swedish brand. But at the same time they didn't want to get sued out of existence immediately. So they decided to change some letters around.

"Valve was all about controlling the flow of an entertaining experience having your hand on that knob deciding when to turn it up, turn it down. That was a compelling metaphor." ~ Greg Coomer

Said quote is from 2:12 in this video:

Per the link below, he helped come up with the name so the reasoning above would seem to be accurate.

May be because they wanted to make game engine, and engines has valves?

I think about all the valves we know:

Steam valve
Water valve
Gas valve
Sewage valve

I mean, Valve did pick the proper name (from this list at least).

Although "Sewage" might have been a better name pick for this client nowadays. 🙃
