VAC Ban always visible on third party websides
Hello, i reactivated my 20 years old steam account. I had a VAC ban 6410 days ago, somewhere in 2006.

I figured out that only i can still see the VAC ban information on my steam profil, for other players
it is removed after 7 years.
So i started to play a online shooter game and a got banned from server admins, and the reason was "past cheating violations on steam".

I don't know what server tools they used, but it seems that 3rd party addons still shows them the VAC ban from so many years ago.

Even if you check accounts on SteamID.pro the VAC Ban will shown.

vac bans don't expire, they're permanent

only the text is removed after 7 years

To add on top of it, any game/dev can use VAC's banlist to keep VAC banned users out of their own games. (much like official Rust servers do now)

The ban is there, and will always be visible to outside resources (you don't even need outside resources/sites, you can just look at a profile's details in xml and see if it has a ban)
There's plenty ways to see your accounts VAC ban. It wasn't removed, it's just not visible to someone looking at your profile the normal way.
It's still active all the same.

Who needs an external site when ?xml=1 added to your profile link works just fine?

community servers with sourcemod and/or gameme stats installed automatically flag you as cheater .. a VAC will never vanish !!

Server administrators and owners can restrict anyone they want from entering their servers. This includes players with VAC or game bans in any game.

They pay for the server, so they get to say who gets to stay and who doesn't.

Most people don't like to play with cheaters, regardless of how old the ban is.
Accounts are still flagged as VAC banned, even if it isn't displayed on the profile. Only the red "VAC Banned" is removed. A site can still look at the code for a profile and see the VAC ban on it.
Account is still marked but the text doesn't display anymore.
Many game servers, especially community operated/modded servers will instantly ban anyone with a VAC Ban, that is the direct consequences of previous decisions.
I thought it was against Steam's terms of service for a game publisher to ban you based of VAC bans from a different game.

They're capable of using VAC's banlist as a blacklist, but it's not seen all that often.

Mostly it's carryover of games that USED to use VAC, but still use VAC's banlist. As is the case of Rust.

This is what I found on it:

"5. Do VAC bans carry over from game to game?
If you get a VAC ban in one of the Gold Source games or Source Engine, it will apply to ALL Gold Source/Source Engine games. In games like Call of Duty, if you cheat in Black Ops lll, it won't apply to Modern Warfare 3.

List of Gold Source Games:

Counter-Strike
Condition Zero
Ricochet
Day of Defeat
Team Fortress Classic
Half-Life: Deathmatch
Deathmatch Classic

List of Source Engine Games:

Counter-Strike: Source
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch
Day of Defeat: Source
Team Fortress 2"

In the OP's case, server admins have permission to not allow banned accounts on their own servers.

And Game bans (not VAC bans) can apply across titles in a publisher's own franchise, like the new CoD titles.

That just means games sharing the same source engine, the VAC can potentially spread to other games using the same engine.

That doesn't stop say in OP's case, where a server admin finds a ban, and manually bans from the server.

Given there's no ban listed on OP's account, it's also safe to assume it's a community server, or Rust which still uses VAC's banlist.

None. They scrape your profile information. Although Valve choose to hide Vac ban information after 7 years from displaying through Steam, third party sites have no such limitation and simply pull the information from the xml data for your profile.

What they are finding is this: <vacBanned>1</vacBanned>

And that is always going to be in your account information.

They don't need to use the xml. They can use their api to scrape the data automatically.
