VAC Ban always visible on third party websides

Hello, i reactivated my 20 years old steam account. I had a VAC ban 6410 days ago, somewhere in 2006.

I figured out that only i can still see the VAC ban information on my steam profil, for other players
it is removed after 7 years.
So i started to play a online shooter game and a got banned from server admins, and the reason was "past cheating violations on steam".

I don't know what server tools they used, but it seems that 3rd party addons still shows them the VAC ban from so many years ago.

Even if you check accounts on SteamID.pro the VAC Ban will shown.

They don't need to use the xml. They can use their api to scrape the data automatically.

The API is still getting it from the XML data.

I thought it was against Steam's terms of service for a game publisher to ban you based of VAC bans from a different game.

This isn't a game developer restricting the use. It is a server admin, likely using a plug-in, that detects and kicks anyone with a VAC and/or game ban from their personal server.

So if you had a CS2 server and didn't want anyone with the name "Totoro" to play, you could use a plug-in to kick anyone who has that name from the server. Same principal here.

Nothing really to do with a game's publisher or developer.

What is the difference between a VAC Ban and a Server Ban?
VAC bans prevent you from playing on secured servers across all of Steam. Server administrators may issue a Server ban, but these are not as severe as a VAC ban. We cannot prevent Server bans at Valve; whoever runs the server can ban players for any reason they desire.



If you find that you are banned from a large number of community servers you have likely been banned by a third-party ban tool, such as Steambans or Punkbuster. These third-party tools are used by a large number of servers sharing a common database of banned IDs. These tools are unrelated to Steam and we cannot assist you in resolving these issues.

You will not be banned by the VAC system unless you log in to a VAC-secure server with a cheat installed on your computer.

If I am running a server and I am paying for it, that means I make the rules. If I don't want former cheaters on my server, that is my choice.

There are even server plugins that will restrict any account with a game ban or VAC ban from entering the server.

As I said earlier, no one wants to play with cheaters and if I want to have a full server, it isn't going to stay that way if I allow cheaters to play along with other legitimate players. The server would eventually die.

If you do not want to be shunned or have to deal with the stigma of the ban, don't cheat or break the rules. I say this because game bans are given for other reasons besides cheating.

Valve feels the same way because griefing and smurfing are bannable offenses.


These people want to have their feelings considered, yet they weren't considering other people's feelings when they were breaking the rules and cheating previously.

That just means games sharing the same source engine, the VAC can potentially spread to other games using the same engine.

That doesn't stop say in OP's case, where a server admin finds a ban, and manually bans from the server.

Given there's no ban listed on OP's account, it's also safe to assume it's a community server, or Rust which still uses VAC's banlist.

Potentially doesn't factor into it, that's how it works. If he would actually read the information instead of the guides, it says the exact same thing.

It's not being used to block a person from playing a game but on a private server and this is common in a lot of them to block known cheaters and allowed.

There's a difference from being officially banned from a game and being banned from a community server however.

It's only for when the game company itself bans people who have a vac ban.

This does not apply for private servers that are hosted by third parties like player servers are.

That's not how it works. It is against the law to rob banks, but banks get robbed everyday. That doesn't magically mean that it is no longer against the law, just because they could not be prevented.
