Games for people who suffer from motion sickness?
Hey all!

Bit of a broad, albeit perhaps silly question, but I am looking for titles of good games that don't subject the player to a large amount of 3D motion... unfortunately I play mainly FPS games so I am not terribly knowledgeable in this area. My best friend suffers from motion sickness while gaming, and for this reason she doesn't game a lot! Would be lovely to be able to show her it's not all bad :)

:8bitheart: Thank you in advance! :) :pinkflower:

Thats tough to find nowadays. But I can relate to when I first ever played portal. I was not expecting to how the game played and did experience a little motion sickness but I felt better after gaining more bearing. Bumping in hopes for finding a suitable game!
Checkers... Chess... Monopoly... Poker... Blackjack... Bingo. Pretty much any tabletop game.

People tend to do better with FPS games with a high FOV. So Far Cry games or Borderlands 2 would probably be good places to look. If you come up with a game you are interested in you can use Google to help you figure out if it has an FOV setting.

There are tons of tabletop games you can play online. A lot of them are completely free.
I get simulation sickness sometimes, and mostly play 2D (and 2.5D/2.75D) games anyway, so I can have a lot to rec, just on Steam alone. There are many, many, many great games out there for people like us.

Here's my basic rec list, copied from my profile:
* action adventures/RPGs by Falcom: Ys Origin, Ys: the Oath in Felghana, Ys I & II, and Gurumin: a Monstrous Adventure
* action RPGs localized by Carpe Fulgur, including Recettear: an Item Shop's Tale and Fortune Summoners
* the action/exploration platformer Guacamelee
* the exploration adventures La-Mulana, Aquaria, Anodyne, and Waking Mars
* the shmups Ether Vapor Remaster and RefleX
* the virtual board game 100% Orange Juice
* the adventure platformers DuckTales Remastered, Mutant Mudds Deluxe, Stealth Bastard Deluxe, Saira, and eversion
* the comedy platformers Eryi's Action and DLC Quest
* the co-op exploration/customization platformer Terraria
* the roguelikes One Way Heroics, Dungeons of Dredmor, and FTL: Faster Than Light
* the visual novels/story adventures Dysfunctional Systems: Learning to Manage Chaos, Nelson Tethers: Puzzle Agent, and fault ~milestone one~
* the traditional JRPG The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, the First Chapter
* the teamwork FPS Team Fortress 2

Some of these are 3D but with fixed camera (the Ys games, Recettear, Ether Vapor), and I don't have a problem with them. Gurumin is 360-degree 3D, with a rotatable camera, which can be a little disorienting sometimes but I've been able to deal with it. Trails is also 360-degree 3D with a rotatable camera but it handles its camera much better (fixed camera distance), so I also have no problem with it.

(Also, there's a new Ys game that just came out. I haven't played it yet so it's not on my list yet.)

I've left TF2 in there since I've actually somehow gotten used to it. I don't know how. It used to give me nausea but it doesn't anymore. Mostly. In any case, though, it's pretty much the only FPS game I play.

(As great as the Portal games are, I do not suggest them to people who get simulation sickness. They are really bad about that, thanks to constantly changing the direction of gravity.)

But yeah. This doesn't include pretty much all the great games on the NES, Genesis, SNES, etc. etc. etc.

I have problems with nausea from playing FPS games as well, and for some reason, turning down the FOV works better for me. Just throwing this out there. It may be different from person to person.

Any sidescroller or 16 bit graphics game... anything that is not in "first person" shouldn't induce motion sickness either.

This game is very relaxing and casual. Calms my nerves.
Unfortunately, it seems that a good portion of the internet can't stop mocking non-3D games.

Hey there, first of all: Motion Sickness aka Gaming Sickness is some serious and especially annoying stuff for someone who love playing games.

I am suffering from motion sickness as well, and it really, really sucks. Especially because i love playing FPS. Sometimes, after playing some games for just 10 minutes, i could puke all over the floor - and it stays until i get some sleep. So this is a serious problem for me.
But yes, there are actually many games which i can play without any problems. Here are some of my favourite:

• Borderlands 1, 2 and Pre Sequel
• State of Decay
• Counter Strike GO (which is strange, because most of the other valve games cause really bad motion sickness)
• Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist
• Crysis 2
• Skyrim
• The Elder Scrolls Online
• Watchdogs
• Fahrenheit
• Far Cry 3 and 4

Hello! I've been trying to find an MMO to playu with my wife, who has motion sickness. She can't stand third person cameras, so something top down would be greatly appreciated

The guy above mentioned ESO, that game induces motion sickness, you can tweak the settings to your liking but it's visuals and camera movement is not great.

Edit - Nice necro though.
