Pretty much this.
If it sells, it's gonna stay.
This.
Doom still has clones coming out. Most games are clones, relatively few games are actually unique.
Actually, I have to change my answer. Clones will never stop coming to Steam...or any other platform.
Doubtful. Diablo clones are still prevelant. Pillars of Eternity is a Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale clone (a damn good one but still). Video games typically iterate from the last ridiculously successful game. Clones are big in games.
Holy crap....you are right.
"Diablo-clone" is like a genre at this point lol. Don't know why people think this is a recent thing. Guess its the younger folks. Once something becomes more successful than the craft em ups someone will start cloning that too.
Give some examples.
I never really got the clone-bashing. If a clone is good, it will provide players with fun. Who cares if it's similliar to another game? Just means that other game did something right as well.
If it's a bad clone (way more likely) then seeing as everyone with a brain will do research and write it off as such (also in the reviews) you will probably not buy it. Other gamers might genuinly like it, so who are you to decide only the original should be on steam?
Stop bashing/complaining, start actually having fun in your life. Trust me, it's way better that way :)
Because I am a actually a clone.
I don't see any issue with improving on a good/great concept, even if you are not the original creator of that concept. This is not the same as reproducing an exact replica though, but I've actually not seen that often.
