That's what I'd do.
You can do the math yourself (since the card gem value varies): Sack of gem goes for 0.61 currently, how many cards would it take you to get to that 0.61? Say it's 15 cards, now how much would you get in total (gem value) from transforming those 15 cards? If it's less than 1000 gems it's not worth it, if it's above 1000 gems, it is worth it.
Look at it this way. You can get 1000 gems on the market for 70 cents right now. So, you can easily value 100 gems at 7c.
Looking at some of even the cheapest cards on the market, selling at 4c each, you'd still need to get back somewhere around 57 gems just to break even. Even if you factor in a 15% loss (similar to selling the card on the marketplace), you would still need a whopping 48 gems back for it to be worthwhile. For reference, Garry's Mod (6 cent card) gives 17 gem which is valued at ~1 cent. This difference becomes even more staggering as you start getting into more expensive cards.
When you craft a card into gems, you're destroying value from it. A lot of people don't realize this and a lot of people try to take advantage of them in the trading communities. While it's not unreasonable to see someone offer a few gems to "even out" a trade between 2 cards from different sets with slightly different value, you need to watch out for people who want to "pay with gems". I can't count how many times I've had people try this on me in the hopes of getting cards for basically nothing.
This^^
And a necro anyways.
Ghost! Oil up the rack. Hotsauce, stoke the coals. This one shall suffer for their transgression.
Ok but for real. From what I've seen the mods say, it is perfectly all right if you have something to add to the thread. This includes all posts that can contribute something useful, or ask a question related to the topic not already answered in the thread. Bumping a thread to say "I agree" or something like that would be discouraged. At least, that's what the mods said the last time I saw one of them saying it.
