Why does Steam recommend games I already own/wishlist?

If I own or have a game on my wishlist that I already know about it and will think about getting it... you don't have to display it again.. and again..

Advertise games that I don't know about or at least games that I don't own. Recommend me new games or fix your algorithm. It's stupid and bad for business to show me what I already own.

Am I the only one that thinks this?

Just in the corner of the box where it shows the recommendations of games, there is a little button tagged 'Customize', there you can tick what you want Steam to show, that including games you already own, and games on your wishlist.

It recommends that I get Fallout 3 standard edition, even though I already own the GoTY edition.

Kind of a pointless recommendation.

Steam thinks Fallout 3 and Fallout 3 GOTY edition are different games.

And that is something the Publisher of the game needs to fix some what, as they set up the games wrong when putting them on Steam

For this case, I think you can just tell it that you're not interested in this game anymore. Doing so will only prevent that particular game from showing up again and won't affect future recs shown to you.
