55 years old. Beginning not to care about games now.
Nothing is interesting to me. Steam releases a few dozon at a minimum, games a day.

The hardware needed to play games with some eye candy now is costing stupid levels of money.

I like computing and am writing this on a Linux drive on main driver but gaming is just not doing it for me like it once did.

During the PS 1 days when i was in my 20's games were great. What is the latest EA sports title? New Tomb Raider coming! Oh, my, i Can play Silent Hill, this is too spooky and that flashlight creeps me out. I dont like jumpscares.

Now games are "as a service" to milk as much money as they can. Games are filled with offensive micro transactions and in many cases the games are built around the store. Not the other way around. Money first. Game quality and fun second.

When you were new to the hobby you were easily impressed by any and everything. Now you've become a jaded silverback and you've got some experience.

FUnny thing is. That's normal. You can lose interest in a hobby over time and fall off it , Nothing wrong.
Maybe take a break, ore you know, clear out your backlog of games. YOu might novel to to tickle your fancy. Additiopnally you can start stepping outside your normal interest boxes
Im the same age and have been playing pinball and video games for just about 50 years.

You are your problem. You are only seeing what you are looking for. Or said another way, youre finding what youre expecting to find and not whats there.

Games as a service and games with MTX arent even a majority of the games released.

That just means you're growing out of video games. I suggest you try out a new hobby
Well "gaming" itself is becoming very complicated the older we seem to get. What used to be, stopping by EB Games, picking up a disc, putting it in the tray, and finding yourself in a french hedgerow, pressing a few button to find a pilot down a linear path, and meeting the objective, has now become a whole different and much more complicated experience on these newer games.

Compounded with, costs. And how expensive these machines, services and everything else has become.

For younger folks, they look forward to challenges. They're young, and not yet old, tired and burnt out. For they, embarking on new experiences. For us, been there, done all of it.

I tend to like games today and enjoy them, that have really no complications or stress.

And i do find them, and still enjoy gaming very much.

You just have to shut out the noise, play games you may enjoy, with the LEAST amount of complications, as we did then. And those games are out there.

But these new Triple As, they can keep them.

I got a free three months Game Pass Ultimate, and got to try out these newer games.

And i have to say, they stink. All of it.

I have to ask how and why these sports games would shut out last gen systems, being they are the SAME games. Literally nothing better. In fact, i'd much rather play NCAA 10 on my 360. And do.

And in addition, i don't want to have to play a game, where i have to learn a WHOLE new aspect, of doing a very simple thing.

I tried that Stalker 2, it started off too dark, and i don't have the patience to make a game too dark to play, playable, and off it went. Not to mention, had zero clue what i was doing, or they even talking about.

I went onto my other games in my library, and enjoy them.

Gaming should be about enjoyment, and the great thing about Steam, and i'm even seeing it on consoles, is how smaller developers are coming out with some very enjoyable games, and i'm having the time of my life.

You just have to find the games right for you.

It happens. I have found many things through the years don't interest me like they once did when I was younger. Just moved on and started to enjoy different things.

Gaming, however, has been one of those things that I have come to enjoy more over time. I am enjoying all types of games that I wasn't interested in years ago. And with all these flexible business models, I find I can enjoy many games without breaking the bank, and even grab a perk or two when I have the extra cash. Not like the good ole days when you had to grind for endless days to maybe have the RNG God's favor you with a needed or desired drop.

No, I'm am enjoying games much too much nowadays for the time I have. That's the real problem - far too many games and far too little time.
I'm 57 and have enough games to play that even if I never purchase a game, I won't run out of a backlog before I die.

I'm happy with what I have and there are still good games being released.
I would say stick to emulation then. Look into setting up PS1 and 2 emulators along with most Nintendo stuff up to probably the Wii era.

If you didn't know you complete Oregon trail online for free

That as well. If you have a computer that can run the PSXS program, that would be awesome. If not they have some of those emulators on Amazon.
Take breaks, don't 'drool' over games and keep your overal disatance.

Also... Steam isn't everything and sometimes you may want to look 'beyond' gaming as well. For example... one of my all-time favorites is Skyrim. Yah, and then I discovered Nexus and their Vortex mod manager... these days my Skyrim sessions are no where nearly the same as that awesome game I once discovered on PS3.

And getting others involved may help as well... my gf & me can often really lose ourselves in (modded!) Minecraft sessions. With 98 mods it's nothing like the vanilla ("original") game but has now become a lot more extensive, a lot more complex and ... also a lot more fun.

Worst case scenario... there's always Inform7 to make your own text adventures ;) ("interactive novels"? ).

I second this. I am 55 and have a similar backlog of quality games to play. The new Fable will come out but also many other games of lesser reputation. I play a lot of indie games.

No problem finding joy in pc gaming for me.

I also like others here recommend another hobby. For me the other hobby is chess but for you, who knows?
I can relate too 52 here and game less and less .... new games not really interested. It's just been there done that nothing grabs really my attention at least not gaming related.
I still buy older games and indies. Triple A is just slop now.

It has nothing to do with "growing out of that hobby"

The western AAA publishers just do not make any longer games that I am interested in. It is simple as that.

And I despise life service games and ingame stores, too. Add to that butt ugly character designs and infantile story writing and you get the complete picture.

It is not your fault. It's theirs. The difference to younglings is, that we know better games.

With my backlog of over 1000 games, they have to entice me to buy new ones, too. Only good games, like "Metaphor" or "Robocop", are able to do that.

AAA gaming is just trash right now. Just play older games or AA or indie games. Let the AAA garbage rot on the vine like we did with Concord.

There's a simple solution to that: don't buy live service games full with in-game purchases designed as a money sink first and maybe, just maybe, fun.

Buy (and play) games that aren't live services. Buy (and play) games that don't have in-game purchases. Buy (and play) games designed to be fun.

Those exist. In huge numbers, I might add. I'm pretty allergic to live service ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and I've yet to come even close to finish my list of not-yet-beaten/not-yet-played games. There's a huge ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lot of those. There's literally no reason to ignore all the fun games while complaining about live service money sinks.

You got older. Preferences, interests and such change when you get older.

Nothing special and not a "gaming" issue.
