Can't Change Store Country to U.S. Even Though I Moved — Support Keeps Ignoring Reality
So I recently moved from Argentina to the U.S. — I’m now living in New York, no VPN, fully U.S. IP, and I’m using legit U.S. debit cards with a billing address here.

I’m trying to change my Steam store region from Argentina to the U.S., and I keep getting the “An unexpected error has occurred” message when I try to make a purchase. Steam says the country will auto-update when I make a purchase with a local payment method. That’s what I’m doing.

But support keeps sending me the same canned replies, saying “you must be in the country you’re trying to switch to” and “you must use a payment method tied to that country.”
👉 I am in the U.S.
👉 I am using U.S. cards
👉 I’ve tried PayPal, debit cards (two of them), all tied to my NY address

Still getting blocked, and they won’t escalate or investigate further. They’ve told me I can’t use U.S. cards from Argentina — but I’m not in Argentina anymore. That’s the whole point.

Anyone else been through this and found a fix? I’m not trying to game the system — I just want to pay full U.S. prices from the country I actually live in now. This is incredibly frustrating, and support is acting like a bot.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You won't like the fix. It's keep contacting steam support.
You have two options.

1 -- Contact support. No one on this user forum can help you.
2 -- Make a new Steam account.

But keep in mind that your payment method must be ISSUED in the US not just from a US brand. E.g., an American Express card issued outside of America is not considered a US payment method. The same is true of a PayPal account created outside of the US.
Why would you want to change to the US region and pay more money to Steam for games?
If they think you are in Argentina the games should be cheaper.

Because not everyone is a getover artist. Also, if he no longer has an Argentinian payment method then he has no choice in the matter.

OP: The only ones that can fix this, like others have said, is Steam Support. Sorry.

My personal opinion is that Im shocked that theyd even be concerned about someone moving to the US store FROM Argentina as its the opposite thats the issue for them.

not all banks will allow use on steam. i had a bank that would refuse to accept steam purchases. My fix was to use PayPal. Now I have a new bank, that has no problems with out of country credit card processors.

True. If you plan on it, make a account at a bank and ask them if you can use steam or a card using your bank for places like steam. This would be useful for you to do OP.
